Stayed for two nights in Room number 49 as part of group of Kesari Tours.
Reason for giving TERRIBLE rating will be understood after reading the review.
Generally we , self and better half , do not use mini bar provided in the room by starred hotels. This time however we had a friend who fancies a drink in company and after hard days sight seeing felt like a beer. Amaya Hills Hotel DO NOT SERVE ALCHOHOLIC DRINKS IN BARS ON FULL MOON DAY.
We had a look at the Mini Bar Rate list kept in the room ( see photo) and enjoyed two beer bottles provided in the Mini Bar.
On the day of departure when I went to clear the bill by paying LKR 500 /-The cashier informed me that each beer bottle was LKR 500/- and demanded an extra 500 /-as full payment .Having carefully seen the Mini Bar rate list , I flatly refused to pay LKR 1000/- for two bottles of beer. The cashier refused to take 500 /- as full payment and referred me to the reception Desk . Here also they insisted that I will have to pay LKR 1000/- for consuming two bottles of beer . I flatly refused to pay more than 500/- .I brought to their notice that as per the Mini Bar Rate list , only Polo , Cashew Nuts and Sri Lankan Beer Bottle were only three items where rates are given for quantity two. However in case of Polo and Cashew it is clarified that the rate is for "each". There is no such clarification for beer bottles , clearly indicating that TWO Sri Lankan Beer Bottles are for LKR 500 /-. Staff at Reception refused to accept my argument . They said they have to contact and report the matter to Senior Manager. I told them they are welcome to contact and report the matter not only to Senior Manager but also to any one in authority BUT I WILL NOT PAY MORE THAN LRK 500/- FOR TWO BOTTLES . By now the argument had attracted some curious souls and few other customers . It was getting a bit embarrassing . I told the staff that I was going for breakfast and wanted the matter resolved in my favour by the time I return to reception desk . On breakfast table my better half and the friends advised me that rather than creating a scene we should pay 1000/- and get it over with . But I would not budge from my stand.
After breakfast I was contacted by the reception staff and informed to pay only 500/- towards full payment . They also apologised and thanked me for bringing to their notice the error in printing of Mini Bar Rate List . Which they said they will rectify to show correct rates.
If I had listened to my better half and friends , I would have shelled out another 500/-
I paid 500/- . Demanded and got a receipt. Some instinct made me check the receipt . It showed cost of two bottles as 1000/- cash payment of 500/- and balance as dues of 500/- for room no 49 . I returned the receipt to the reception and insisted on a receipt which showed "NIl " dues against Room 49 . It was duly issued . ( see Photo, unfortunately no photo for receipt showing dues of 500/-)
Now I really do not know if correct cost of one bottle is 500/- or 250/-. I am also not likely to go to Amaya Hill to check if they have reprinted the Mini Bar Rate List . If they do not reprint the new rate list it would mean that one bottle is only 250/-
If that be so it raises major issue about moral and ethical values followed by the management of Amya Hills.
Future visitors to this hotel should check on this and be aware of the pitfalls.
On the second floor select "even" number rooms . They have all the beautiful view . Odd nu...
