We stayed in this hotel one night on a trip to Kandy (802). Must say I liked this hotel a lot, despite a few glitches (top&tailed bedsheets, no kettle, and expensive drinks). The interior decor was really good. Our room had a great view across the city, and this hotel has one of the most dramatically positioned swimming pools anywhere. The kids were fascinated with the monkeys (and the warning stickers about them on the balcony windows!). I never had a really good meal in a hotel in Sri Lanka, but the food here was adequate, and the airy open restaurant was an atmospheric place to dine. I'd have been much happy to stay here rather than the bland hotel we were booked into in Beruwala.

“Fantastic Views over Kandy”

Our room in the Thilanka hotel was nearly fantastic. The room was spacious and nicely furnished but best of all was the amazing view over Kandy. I could sit in bed and stare through the huge double doors that led onto the balcony and gaze at the spectacle outside - Wow!!! The only downside was the bath. The bathroom itself was clean and tidy but the bath, although clean, was shabby and looked manky.

The dining room was modern, open and stylish - the food, average buffet style - ok for a short stay. We did find 'The Woodpecker bar' very expensive for Sri Lanka but the staff were very nice.

“Not great value”

Hotel Thilanka

We stayed in the honeymoon suite and it definitely wasn't worth the money. OK hotel, clean and a good base but a bit basic and the food was hit and miss.

“Great below top floor”

The Thilanka has a great position and the view of Kandy is magnificiaent. The dining room is clean and modern with art on the walls. The food is good and varied. The bar is comfortable, good service, you can get a decent plate of chips (if yoyu don't fancy a proper meal) and the beers are good too.
The only down side is the upper floor. The ground floor has beautiful suites, on the second the floor is painted red and is less attractive with smaller rooms. The top floor is reached by a concrete stair and the corridors are used for storage. It strikes me that these would normally be the staff quarters. The rooms are small and basic with no wardrobe space. (Our room was 408). Saying that we were only there for an overnight stay so it was no problem. The added parade of monkeys in the morning was fun :-)
I'd say a good base for travelling in the area though a bit far from the main shops.

My Wife and I stayed here for 2 nights to watch the test match. The room was booked by our beach boy Sunny from the Kani Lanka in Kulutara so we were a little unsure what to expect.
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, the hotel enjoys an excellent position with stunning views over Kandy.
The Room was stylish spacious if not a little basic, the Bathroom wasn't so great.
The Pool was a touch small and a few more lounger's would have been good.
Cheeky little monkeys occupy the surrounding trees and on more than one occasion we saw them dart down to help themselves down to help themselves to what ever they could grab!!
The food was the typical hotel Buffet fare, and the staff were very pleasant. My wife particularly enjoyed the spa which I was told was half the price of the one at our beach resort.
