“Good hotel in Kandy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Good hotel on the hill of Kandy, it's necessary a car to arrive in Kandy centre.
The terrace and the swimming pool are just renovated with beutiful view. The rooms and the bathrooms are very spacious and clean, but not so news and there is a little smell of dampness (in august 2013, monsoon period)
The breakfast is good.
In general good hotel for a simple holiday

Excellent location. Walking distance to Sri Dalada Maligawa (temple of the tooth relic) and Kandy town. Food was delicious, more than we expected. But restaurant staff need little more training. Girl at reception was so pleasant and room staff is okay. Try their bar by the pool, nice place to have a drink with a view of hills. Little but carefully maintained garden. Beware of monkeys, you are safe if you keep balcony door locked.

Hotel Thilanka is fully equipped with everything, one expects in a mid-range hotel in a country like Sri Lanka. The reception was very fast and friendly and so were the supporting staffs. As located on a hill top, we could look at Kandy city by night quite well from the height of the room. Both in breakfast and dinner, we had wide range of choice from drinks to deserts and we really enjoyed our short stay in this hotel. The pool was also very attracting, but unfortunately we didn't have enough time for swimming. We, the group of eight people, considered Thilanka as a perfect professional hotel for us. One thing we must mention for the future visitors that 'Please be careful about the monkeys!' Though we were cautious enough about the monkeys, still a gang of three tried to snatch away a hand bag from my wife and finally they failed.

Lovely hotel with nice rooms and nice looking pool (we didn't have time to try). We did find the food here a disappointment compared to other hotels in Sri Lanka - also the restaurant staff were quite annoying (pushing for tips, this is not the norm in this country). Good shower and nice bar area.

Stayed here for 2 nights and was not disappointed. Location is perfect overlooking kandy and away from all the huddle and bustle and traffic fumes. Didn't eat dinner there but got food in the bar and it was very nice. Also breakfast was good with a big selection, just watch out for the monkies who stole another tourists iPhone while they were eating breakfast. Rooms clean and modern, large bathroom. Good spa and very cheap for massage. Only a 5 minute walk to temple of the tooth and a nice little supermarket across the road. Would stay again!

Staggered off an overnight flight and took the two hour drive up to Kandy to this hotel. As we arrived, a mongoose scampered away. Friendly greeting at the desk, a swim in the lovely pool with one of the best views in SL, stuffed ourselves at the buffet (Sri Lankan and other dishes available) then we fell into a deep, exhausted sleep in the large and spacious room with its comfortable bed. We were with our four sons and looking forward to some animal action, but we hadn't expected such a great introduction to it as we got the next morning when our son knocked excitedly at the door saying 'the monkeys are stealing our trunks!' We'd hung swimming things out to dry on the balcony - ignoring the warnings not to leave anything out - and sure enough, a monkey had gone off with my youngest son's trunks. It couldn't have been a more exciting start to the holiday - we all gathered at the window to watch the monkeys prowling the railings and when my son laid his hand against the glass he was thrilled to be high fived by a monkey. Perfect (and a hotel member delivered the trunks back shortly afterwards). For those not as excited as we are by animals, the breakfast buffet was generous and delicious, the staff friendly, the cocktails an added bonus and the whole atmosphere and layout very pleasant. This was the most expensive hotel we used on our holiday - our usual budget was a hundred dollars for two rooms, and I think this was £140, but it was worth it. Kandy is a good starting point for visitors: the temperature is a little cooler so adjustment for those of us from northern climates is easier and the town has a nice laid back vibe. Try a walk along the lakeside, and a drink in Queens hotel. Don't miss the Botanical gardens - they may sound boring but the fruit bats and monkeys were a big thrill and it was fascinating to see things like cloves growing. As ever, the Lonely Planet has over-enthused: on the subject of the Botanical Gardens, the ancient Javan fig like 'a crazed geodesic dome drawn by Escher' is not as amazing as they make it sound, but it was still a good trip. And the Thilanka was a perfect base for it all.

Staff were really attentive. The room was superb with a great views over Kandy. The restaurant and pool was on the roof, we had entertainment in the evening. The food was incredible so much of it catering for every taste. Went to a typical Kandy dance very good. We had a tour guide collect us the following morning. His name was Siri he was brilliant he definitely made our holiday. Took us to places where there were no tourist we saw the real Sri Lanka. He tailored out trip to suit us, he asked where we wanted and where we wanted to go. He booked us into lovely hotels. His price was really cheap. Check out my reviews on Ella Gap Panorama Hotel.
