“Nice new hotel in the centre of Kandy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

Spent a couple of days in Mango Gardens and I have to say it was the best hotel we stayed in when in Sri Lanka with friendly and helpful people working there. Nice big and spotless rooms, tastefully decorated with good beds, perfect location just a couple of minutes from the lake and centre of the town. The signature feature of this hotel is the balcony with the surrounding mango trees and a nice view overlooking the lake. Early in the morning you can hear the buddhist monks chanting mantras in the Temple and share your breakfast with monkeys :-). At the moment there are no dining facilities but the owner of the hotel is working hard to open a small restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. So those who will be visiting Kandy around December-January - you will definitely be able to have some food without leaving the hotel. Some people complain that it was a bit noisy during the day due to the construction works in the nearby site - but honestly - who stays in a hotel room during the day when in Kandy? There was no noise after 5 so quiet nite and morning are guaranteed. Enjoy your stay

The hotel owner is charming. We booked at Palm Garden, but we called because we need to know if this hotel was near Kandy, and when we talk with him, he offered Mango Garden for the same price, and we accepted. The two hotel are very near, but Mango Garden is new. I think it is one of the best hotel we slept during our trip in Sri Lanka. And I am considering the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, cleaning and maintenance of bedrooms, quality of breakfast, near of the city and price.
It is a really good place and I would recommend it to anyone, and I had breakfast in Palm Garden, and is a good place too.

Stayed here for 2 nights as a 'cheap' place to stay, although its expensive to surrounding hotels.
The manager pressures you into buying tours with his hotel although its extortion with the prices. There were ants in the bathroom and very dirty, no customer service what so ever. If you somehow choose to stay here, don't book online but haggle when you get here as you're likely to get almost half the price off.

After leaving our original hotel because it was a hole, we was greeted by a man asking if we needed somewhere to stay. He offered to show us his hotel and us being very tired with our big bags we agreed but wasn't expecting anything great. He took our bags and drove us 100 yards up the road and we arrived at the hotel. Mango Garden hotel is in the heart of kandy. It looked nice, although building work was being done to hotel, but I saw the expansion as a good sign of a successful business. The staff were helpful and friendly. The manager showed us the rooms. We picked the one we liked, we haggled and he agreed. It was cheap. The staff are always trying to help and suggest what to do in and around kandy and advise you where to go and avoid. Imran was exceptionally helpful and got us everywhere on his tuk tuk and even ironed my shirts at his house! A pleasant stay.

This hotel is a typical place were you need to stay because you want to explore the city of Kandy but this hotel is very basic. The beds were new and shiny but the room wasn't very clean. The bathroom had a entrance half a meter high, very dangerous. There were ants all over the toiletseat. The towels we dirty from the former guests....there was a construction site right across the street, they worked at the sight untill late at night. They said breakfast was included but there was no breakfast included. If you wanted breakfast or dinner you had to get it somewhere in the neighborhood. We had dinner there but it was not something you send people to you like....:-(

We (2x adults and our 13yr old daughter) stayed here for three nights in July. The place was basic, clean, had wifi but at the time we stayed it had no restaurant facility, however just round the corner was a small B&B where we got a good breakfast each morning. I would say that although it is basic it's is more than adequate as you have everything that you need in the immediate area, and it's only a short walk from the town centre (10 minute walk) the hotel is just off the lake on the opposite side to town. I booked by via email and rang the owner on our arrival at the train station, he was with us with a couple of minutes and took us to the hotel free of charge which was very helpful. I would happily stay there again, shame about the lack of restaurant though as it would have been useful in the quiet evenings.

We were directed to the place when looking for accomodation in the evening, like some previous travellers, and were pleasantly surprised as well. We were thinking about moving our first choice place the following day but decided to extend our stay next morning. Saranankara Road is about 10 minutes walk from the city center and the more popular turist restaurants, 15 from the train station.

Room Tip: The rooms are of very different size and quality, check out a few before deciding.
