Owner description: Sri Dalada Maligawa (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාව) or The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex which houses the Relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site partly due to the temple. The temple which houses the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is one of the holiest shrines in the entire Buddhist world.

“Nice temple to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

This temple is one of the holiest places for Buddhists. The entry fee for citizens of SAARC member nations is half that for other tourists. Hence, it is advised that citizens of SAARC nations carry their passport to the temple. There is a souvenir shop in the complex where one can buy souvenirs at a reasonable rate. The temple has a nice museum that showcases relics and photographs from the history of the temple.

“Nice temple to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We visited on sort of a hot day, & you are requested to take off your shoes, so our feet were burning outside! Make sure to wear something easy to take off .. The temple could be crowded with people, but it was fine in our case .. People will be worshiping there, so it's advisable to be quiet & respectful .. You will also need to wear something that covers your shoulders & your knees for both males & females ..

The temple has amazing architecture & paintings that tells you the story of Buddha .. I loved it, & do recommend it ..

“Nice place to visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

A nice place to visit. You can experience the sacredness of the place and the faith of Buddhists to the Buddha Tooth Relic while paying their homage and praying. The architecture is terrific and the atmosphere is wonderful. The archeological museum lacks signage and exact way to get in. Be prepared to take off your shoes while visiting the entire place so wear shoes which are easy to take off.
