The Chaaya Citadel is a comfortable, western style hotel on the outskirts of Kandy, with views over the river. The location is peaceful, but you are only a short drive from Kandy's centre, providing the best of both worlds.

The rooms were well equipped, clean and comfortable, and I had a pleasant view over the river.

The restaurant serves both local cuisine and western style dishes and is pleasantly sited. Service was rather slow but as a buffet style option could be chosen, inconvenience was limited. Food quality, price and choice was good. Opening hours were extended for those attending the Kandy Perahera which was convenient.

We stayed at the Chaya Citadel, Kandy en-route from Habarana to Negombo..Thankfully we stayed here for 2 nights only. While we really enjoyed our stay at the Chaya Group's hotel at Habarana, this Kandy hotel is below average. The lobby seems a bit run down, and compared to the welcoming approach at other places in Sri Lanka, the welcome was a bit muted..generally scowling faces and a lack of smiles except for the check-inlady.. I felt the hotel seems to be meant for local business types, although 90% of the guests were tourists.. The hotel seems old and meandering, many aisles being dimly lit and generally having a shabby appearance. The Hotel maintenance is also average. We stayed in an A/C suite, overlooking the river - with 2 rooms; However the view was average.. Lot of noise from the traffic on the small street, passing along the side road. Our room included breakfast and this was the most dissapointing part - I noticed a distinct shabbiness about the restaurant on the first floor, at many places there were small puddles of water on the floor, and nobody seemed bothered to clean up. Generally the diversity and quality of the food was also poor, as was the service at this particular hotel. Our objective was a relaxing holiday in a nice scenic place, and both Kandy and the Chaya CItadel, Kandy dissapointed

This was our second stop in sri lanka after coming from dubai first stop been the cinnamon lodge
this hotel although it did not have the grounds the lodge had, it did have spectacular river views and the accomodation slightly more modern, the food was great and plenty of chioce, i would come again for a two night stop its in a good central location .

We only stayed here for one night as part of our tour but wish it could have been longer. Hotel in beautiful location right on the banks of the river where brahminy kites flew overhead.
We had interconnecting rooms, very spacious, modern and well appointed with huge walk in showers. Balcony overlooked the river.
Swimming pool looked nice but unfortunately it was pouring with rain when we arrived and we never got to spend any time by the pool.

Food in the restaurant was ok, buffet with plenty of choice. We had lunch in the bar and this was ok although it took ages to arrive and was overcooked.

Overall a peaceful resort away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy
