Well located in Kandy (place I recommend). Big and clean rooms, great food. Beautiful pool and hotel. I stayed one night during a tour.

unfortuntly the hotel does not have good control on the room service staff. I personly stayed there for three nights, other that the anoing knok on the door tocheck if every thing is ok. at the last day i found one of the cleaning staff in the room at 10:00PM and he claimed that he was cheking and we descoverd that he stole my wife pers. i contacted the hotel manger and they investigated that and brought back our belongings. but still the hotel contributed to that because there is no system to band staff from going in at night time.

I dont think its a safe place.

Stayed here for two nights on a tour of Sri Lanka.(Superior room)

The hotel is located in the town, and check in was fast and efficient, pleasant staff.
Given a cool drink and a cool towel on arrival.
The lobby was massive and well decorated.

The room was large with a sitting area and a private balcony.
The view was great as we were on the sixth floor.
The hotel was very clean and very quiet.
The room also had complimentary toiletries/coffee/tea and a safe. Sockets were UK and there were adaptors for other countries.
I was a bit disappointed in the bathroom. It was rather small and had dark blue tiles which were covered with mould in some places.

The restaurant was large and food was made to order off a menu. Only desserts were buffet.
The food was ok, wasn't great.....I was served a hot soft drink...how odd.
The staff was very polite.

Didn't have time to use the pool but it was big.

We went to the temple of the tooth and also did the cultural show, which was both enjoyable.

We were told that this was a 5star hotel, the lobby screamed 5star and the way the staff at reception were dress also suggest 5star, but I didn't think that the room was 5 star because of the bathroom.

This hotel was ok, compared to the other hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. If this was the only hotel we stayed in I would have rated it higher.

Just the one night here as we were travelling. It's got nice rooms, a spa, good restaurant, gym, and pool. We stayed here to visit the temple of the tooth and the culture show which I recommend seeing.

My first word of advice on this hotel is their pricing structure! I work in a hotel and know many tricks of the trade to ensure that one only pays the best possible rate. I tried various online agents, high street travel agents, calling the hotel and getting a quote via their website. The best rate we could get was £80gbp per night, BB. Through a friend of a friend, we contacted someone from Jetwing Hotels (a competitor hotel group) who managed to get us a 50% discount! Unbelievable. Don’t be afraid of shopping around for rates at this hotel… a bit of perseverance could save you quite a sum.

The hotel is about a 10-15 minute drive outside of Kandy located in a pleasant valley. Initial impressions were very good! A prompt check in (with the usual refreshing drink) in the large and magnificently appointed lobby. They even had reserved accommodation for the driver… the first of the hotels we encountered in Sri Lanka that had done as we requested on that front!

Our room was in the annexe area, reached by crossing over the ‘bridge/walkway’ from the main building. Unlike Kandalama, the walk is not too far at all! The room itself was very good… a well-appointed and modern room with all the usual facilities (TV, minibar, safe, hospitality tray etc). Our balcony gave excellent views of the main building and the surrounding valley. The bathroom also offered a bath and shower. All were spotlessly clean and very peaceful. We were quite near the lift and I always try and avoid these rooms as in most hotels one hears everyone coming and going… not such problem at the Earls.

The restaurant was excellent… probably the greatest variety of food on the dinner buffet that we found in any of the hotels that we stayed in Sri Lanka. An amazing choice including Sri Lankan, European, Oriental and Indian foods. As usual, the typical buffet let down was that the hot food was not as hot as one would prefer! The buffet was also supplemented by various meat and fish dishes being grilled/cooked to order. The restaurant itself was very pleasant, nicely decorated and with a pleasant atmosphere. Another minor criticism was the ‘entertainment’ laid on by the hotel… the first night was a pianist, which was great, but the second night we were ‘serenaded’ by a 4 piece cheesy pop group churning out 80-90s pop covers… not really music suited to the surroundings or the clientele. One would have thought the management would have worked this one out, as all of the guests were requesting tables well away from the ‘band’! A superb choice for breakfast as well… the usual western/Sri Lankan mix accompanied by some excellent home made cakes, pastries and bread. The service, especially from the maitre’d (who remembered our name/room number after the first meal) was superb, prompt, attentive and unobtrusive.

The bar, on a mezzanine overlooking the lobby area was surprisingly small, but offered a great choice of beverages at a surprisingly good price, considering the establishment. Despite being small, however, we never found it difficult to find a seat. Oh, and live music was also available in the bar. One night a pianist and the second a saxophonist. Neither of them out of place or unwelcome. We did discover a Karaoke Bar too, but we gave it a miss!

Due to a pressing itinerary and rather a lot of rain, we did not use the pool or leisure facilities, but they looked superb. We did, however, go for a little wonder around the grounds… quite compact but very well looked after.

All in all an excellent hotel which seems to be able to cater for the business and leisure market, as well as several large parties/weddings without marginalising any of the groups. Once we were able to secure the discount, we found the hotel excellent value for money and would certainly stay again. The staff were all attentive and ensured that we were well looked after.

What a beautiful hotel in a very scenic location. The view from the hotel fantastic. The sunrise over the trees below is excellent.

The staff was friendly and helpful. They greeted us at the door and checked us in personally from the seating area in the lounge. It was very well done. We had 2 rooms and asked for connecting rooms, which they could not accomodate, but this was the only downside at all to an otherwise excellent stay.

The rooms were absolutely gorgeous and very clean. The rooms that we had were very tastefully decorated with a mix of traditional hardwood furniture and very modern amenities. The bathroom had a very nice big tub and a seperate large standup shower.

The main restaurant is great. They have a huge buffet with lots of choices. The dinner and breakfast were excellent. They have a full bar with lounge music. It is a little pricy, but very nice.

The hotel grounds were very well manicured. The pool area is huge. There is an onsite gym area with limited equipment, but reasonable enough to get a good workout.

What a lovely location! What a lovely hotel!! Very friendly staff,c lean pleasant surroundings and you cannot beat the quality and the taste of their cuisine. As very experienced regular travellers,(unlike yesterdays millionaires who travel for the first time on cut price holidays and make poor comments for the sake of it), we give the devil its due.In all professional honesty it is a damn good hotel and you must try it!
