“Disgusting Hotel”

Mahaweli Reach Hotel

Aug 15, 2008

This Hotel was horrible. We only stayed in the hotel for one night as we done a stopover trip. There were mice running around the dinning room and all the staff knew. When we told the staff they just laughted at us. Even the manager didn't care. The rooms were ok and but the food was horrible.I would never recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a decent holiday.

Only stayed for one night as part of a tour. I got the impression that a lot of clients were passing through and only staying for one or two nights.

The hotel isn't 5 Star, but as we had only paid £80 (Sterling) for a two day trip, including a one night Half-Board stay, I can't say I was expecting luxury. I'd say we paid 3 Star prices and got a 3-4 Star experience.

The room (316) was large, as were the beds and bathroom. The beds were very comfortable.

The bath was chipped in places but the water was hot and plenty of it. The shower was fine. I was a bit surprised that there was a plain glass window in the top corner of the bathroom that overlooked the corridor!

The airconditioning didn't work and the control box for all the electrics only worked after the porter gave it a slap. The radio worked when it wanted to, but the TV didn't have a signal. I thought this was because the aerial cable was in poor condition, but the couple next door said they couldn't get a signal either.

I was surprised the room did not have coffe/tea making facilities, although room service quickly came up with a good pot of coffee. There was only two small bottles of water in the room and no obvious way of re-filling them - another room service call perhaps. I didn't try the minibar.

We were booked in to have the evening buffet, which had a wide selection. I didn't rate the food as being particularly good though and we didn't hang around for long. The breakfast buffet was also pretty unimpressive.

This hotel is fine for a transit, but I wouldn't stay more then a couple of days. Probably worth a 3 Star, which is all we paid.

“So -So Mahaweli”

Mahaweli Reach Hotel

Aug 7, 2008

Our family stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of a tour. The hotel overlooks the Mahaweli river running through Kandy. It was busy whilst we were there and weddings were being held on both days.Although it was noisy it was interesting to see how the Sri Lankeans celebrated their weddings. The ladies sari's were absolutley stunning!
Our rooms were ok- the first thing that sturuck me was how dark the rooms were.I loved the wooden floor and the beds were huge.No tea or coffee making facilities. The bathroom was dissapointing- it looked distinctly grubby around the grouting and we had ant visitors during our stay. Also the corridor to our room overlooked next doors rubbish tip.
We enjoyed the buffet food and found the staff friendly and helpful.
Oh, the swimming pool was freezing!

“Peaceful and relaxing base”

Mahaweli Reach Hotel

We only stayed 2 nights as part of a 3 day excursion during our honeymoon and unlike other reviews, we loved it.

Room: Massive. 2 comfortable queen sized beds, nicely furnished, loads of storage, great air con, huge bathroom with fab power shower, good selection of complimentary toiletries. Great 'mood' lighting supplied by over a dozen lamps and wall lights.

Hotel: A warm, friendly welcome after a long journey. Laid back atmosphere in elegant surroundings. Restaurant and bar overlooked a lovely pool in a pretty terrace/garden area overlooking the river. We enjoyed a relaxed evening swim under trees filled with fruit bats! It all added to the charm.

Dining: Nicely presented buffet style meals and breakfast with a massive selection of dishes to suit all tastes which we found excellent.

Location: A bit out of it but it was nice to escape the hustle and bustle of Kandy. Plus we had great views overlooking the river.

Overall: A peaceful and relaxing base for exploring the sights and surrounding countryside. Not 5 star but it suited us down to the ground. We didn't have time to use the spa or other recreational activities and would have liked to stay longer.

We were staying on the west coast and did an excursion to kandy and the interesting sightsaround that area, it was a very long journey and we were very pleased to have booked into this Hotel,. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, we had a large room overlooking the gardens, comfortable bed , large bathroom, some slight chips in the bath, but overall it was very clean with complimentary toiletries. The restaurant was well laid out with an excellent selection of food .After our one night stay we then made our decision to visit again for maybe one week, it would be much better for exploring the sights and surrounding countryside, much less travel and more time to enjoy the country we come to see. It was not a european 5 star hotel but still worth a visit, we will be back for more very soon.
