Nothing great to write about, but nothing wrong with it either, except for the fact that I felt USD50 for a night for this place is a little too steep.

The bed was comfortable, and the owner was talking nicely to us.

There wasn't enough space within the room to move about, and the bathroom was very damp and stinky. We realised that there are better options at this price range in that area, but we unfortunately pre-booked our room.

The owner isn't going to agree, and will definitely make some points, but there's absolutely no value for money if I pay $50 to stay in this place for one night.

Stayed here for just one night. Hard to find - up a long drive and up hill. Owner is a friendly guy. Decent restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was a bit average. Be wary of the guitar players at dinner!

Enjoyed a 6 night stay at Amanda Hills around New Year. Our room was overlooking the lake and we enjoyed many early evenings sat on our balcony relaxing. Meals were excellent, particularly the evening buffets. We ventured elsewhere on one evening for a change but it was easier and more enjoyable to stay at the hotel. Others have mentioned Jude and his staff; all were very helpful and supportive. They arranged trips for us and all were very reasonable. They certainly weren't trying to persuade us to do things we weren't keen on! On the day we left Jude got up and made us a hot drink at some very early time and had arranged for sandwiches and a drink for our train journey back to Colombo. Give the place a try, you'll not regret it.

Room Tip: Choose the lake view if possible.

Nothing wrong with the place. Average really sums it up. Not great, not bad and served its purpose for a short stay. It is perched really high on a hill with an easy walk down to the lake and into the main shopping area. Do not attempt to walk back up the hill to the hotel unless you are super fit :) Get a tuktuk they are cheap and plentiful.

The owner of Amanda Hills is one of the most honest, hard working men I have met, and it shows in his hotel.

We had backpacked around Sri Lanka for a week and had roughed it pretty intensely, so we decided on staying at a nice place for a night to recoup. Upon arriving in Kandy, we had asked our tuk tuk driver to take us to AMAYA Hills, but for some reason he took us to Amanda Hills.

We spoke with the owner about our awkward predicament, he took no hesitation into helping us secure a place at Amaya Hills, even letting us use the internet and helping us make the phone calls, despite the fact that it was extremely late and he was obviously tired. Eventually, we decided on taking the last room they had available.

The room itself was extremely well taken care of, and is probably the only place in Sri Lanka I stayed at where I didn't find any stains on the sheets. Breakfast was wonderful, featuring both Sri Lankan and Western foods. I will add that the dining area has one of the most spectacular views of Kandy, overlooking the lake and the hills. We enjoyed some good beers on that balcony.

The owner is incredibly honest and hardworking, and actually reminded me a lot of my father. He is not out to jip you of your money, but only wants to make sure your stay in Kandy and Sri Lanka is as enjoyable as possible. His knowledge of traveling around the country is spot on, and I would recommend speaking to him if you want advice on planning the rest of your trip.

The winding road to the hotel is a tad tricky to navigate. There're no lifts, but the staff members are cordial and helpful. Wi-Fi works in the open and in the rooftop restaurant. The rooms aren't the biggest but sufficient enough to spend the night. If you're looking for a clean place to rest after a day of exploring a wonderful part of the world, this hotel would do the job.

We stayed at the wonderful Amanda Hills during our recent Kandy stay. The welcome and service from the staff team was warm, friendly and incredibly helpful, and the manager was happy to organise one day trip and a driver for our onward transport for us.

Our twin room was clean and well furnished, and opened onto a small living area, shared with one other room - this must be a bonus if you're travelling with a group of others or as a family. The buffet breakfast and Sri Lankan buffet dinner were very tasty and the views from the roof top restaurant and terrace a wonderful way to start and end the day.

Location wise, the hotel is indeed sited at the top of a steep, windy road, but there were plenty of tuk tuks around for easy access to the main bit of Kandy town in the evenings, and during the daytime it was simply a 10-15 min walk around the lake, so great positioning.

All in all we were delighted that we'd chosen to stay at the the Amanda Hills.
