“Great location, superb food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Excellent place to stay in Kany. A liitle out of town in a great jungly location with birds and monkeys all around. The room was clean although quite tiny but that wasn't a major issue as we weren't in it much. The common areas are great and the evening meal quite simply the best food we had in Sri Lanka (which is saying something, as every meal in the country was great).

St Bridget's is perfect if you like being close to the city but far enough away to enjoy the beautiful gardens and wildlife Sri Lanka has to offer.
Most tuk tuk rides in or out of town were 200-300Rs and the walk is quite pleasant, passing some schools and a delicious bakery.
The owners are quite proud of their guest house and cooking, but when it is this good why wouldn't you be? The dinners were fantastic, vegetables of all kinds being served over the three nights we were there.
An added tip is head to Slightly Chilled for a couple of drinks in the city. You wont regret it.

We stayed for 3 nights on two different occasions.
Guest House is located 5 mins tuk tuk from city( cost 250lkr) and if you wish its about a 30 min walk to the city centre/lake
we paid 2500 for a double room en-suite, a balcony, room was small but nice. bathroom also very small and a little grubbier than the bedroom. On the second occasion we stayed in the twin room for 2200.
Pipi the owner is wonderful host who prepare meals at an additional cost, breakfast consists of coffee, which she roasts herself, homemade jam, as much toast as you like, fresh fruit and eggs, (scrambled fried, boiled or poached) the breakfast costs 500lkr.
Dinner costs 700- it is fantastic, an explosion of fresh Sri Lanka produce, you get huge portions of food brought to your table. The food itself is simply superb!
My only negatives for this Guest Hiuse are, wifi connection seemed very hit n miss, on some occasions meals can be later than arranged(30-40 min later than scheduled) frequent power cuts

Overall this place is wonderful, wit a wild jungle setting, its a perfect escape from the chaos of the town, beautiful veranda upstairs over looking the garden.

I stayed for three nights and was really happy with my stay.

The guesthouse itself is simply but tastefully decorated, with comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, and (in some rooms) soft pillows (a real rarity so far on my travels in Sri Lanka!!). The common areas are lovely, there's a beautiful big porch to sit and talk or read, and a dining room that is a great place to meet the other guests of an evening. The guesthouse is a bit of a distance out of town, but I think that that is ideal, allowing you to get out of the hustle and bustle of central Kandy. Pipi and her family are honest and very helpful, and the food is lovely.

I would strongly recommend this place! It's the kind of place you hope for.

From the moment that the owner picked me up from the train station I felt that he wasn't genuinely kind. I had them do some laundry for me and when I realised that one of my items were missing, I asked them about it.The lady told me that her daughter had returned along with all my other clothes. When I insisted that they double check she became visably upset and told me NO! as she walked back into her house and left me standing outside. Also, me and some other tourist were chatting having a beer one night when the owner disgruntledly told us to keep it down. So don't count on being able to stay up and hang out outide past 9PM. I had high hopes for the food, but it was very average, with the same typical "3 curries" meal served anywhere. Try Devon's restaurant, it's cheaper and more delicious. This place is not "hidden" away. You can see tuk tuks and cars on the road from your bedroom. There are lots of other hostels on the same road. From years of travel experience, I've found that when a place gets listed in the Lonely Planet guidebook, the place/owners tend to get conceited. I think they're just a fat, greedy family.

We stayed here for 2 nights and were very pleased with the service. The guesthouse itself is a bit of a walk (~15mins) from the train station but is nicely tucked away so you feel you're away from the city.
The hosts are very warm and welcoming and the staff very friendly.
They made us feel at home which was lovely.
We had dinner there both nights as the homecooked food was really good.
Great value for money aswell so suits traveller types.

Room Tip: Definitely have dinner there as their homecooked food was great
