“Wonderful views - expensive drinks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We stayed overnight on a trip to Kandy and Dambulla etc. We were amazed by views as we walked into reception and the views from our balcony which was very private. The downside was the food (buffet evening meal) and the price of drinks was double we had paid anywhere else. The hotel was up a very narrow winding road which was quite hair-raising! The manager was very friendly but other staff quite abrupt. Ok for an overnight stop but take your own drinks!

We left Dambulla at dawn and took us 5-hour drive on the way through this hotel. Since it is located on the very top hill of Kandy, it was difficult for us to find this hotel.

We arrived very late in the evening and the hotel was almost closed. I noticed that only one or two staffs were accommodating all the guests in this hotel.

I got disappointed to see a king size bed prepared for us, even we made a prior request for twin beds. I even got more disappointed to know that the basic utilities (shampoos, soaps, toothpastes) were all upon request in the lobby, and no phone service.

The only good on this hotel is the location. You will wake up to a very stunning view from the terrace. Sea of clouds covering the Kandy hills, which for a second, you would thought you are in heaven.

The worst part for this hotel was the breakfast. They only offered some slices of fruits, an egg and bread (which took almost 20 mins to serve) as an entire meal.

Overall, not recommendable. Not even for budgeted travelers.

We stayed here for one night during a tour of Kandy etc.The manager was very friendly and helpful, but as we had both our children we found nothing to entertain the children. This hotel was booked by our tour guide and not us,so really we would not have chosen it if we had a choice. It is on a high location, with beautiful views but not child friendly! A certainly interesting drive up to the hotel!,but the views are breath taking once there. As the manager informed us,the hotel is generaly used by back packers staying over night,or cricket fans who are out most of the time and just need a bed to sleep. The food is ok although the service could be quicker! All in all the rooms were adequate, the views beautiful and the staff friendly enough, but I will not be returning due to fear of heights and the proximity!.This does not mean I didnt have a pleasant time.I think for overnight stays it is a good hotel but personally anymore than that would be to much for me! The manager is very welcoming though!

Room Tip: All rooms are facing the beautiful views, beware if you are scared of heights!!!!

The rooms are in excellent condition. The services provided by the hotel staff are too excellent and commendable, You get a great view from the hotel. The foods are delicious and tasty. You get value for the money you spend.

From Sri Lanka. We have visited this hotel after searching the web. we hoped a wonderful place with quality service. but unfortunately we lost our mind. natural view and the place where hotel is situated is really good. room condition is also ok. but foods were awful. poor quality and quantity. no any sea foods or eggs supplied. only chicken and pork. breakfast also in same condition. however after had string hoppers with dhal and pol sambol for breakfast,me and my husband had a bad stomachache. didnt see any proper dessert arrangement except few pieces of fruits. felt really sorry about the foreigners who are visiting this place as they have nothing to eat. Pls stop spoiling our sri lankan image by providing this type of poor service.

the hotel does have a great view particularly for sunrise however it was not supported by the service and the location is actually quite far from the center of town,
breakfast buffet was awful, the cups and cutleries was not washed properly. the second day we arrived back at the hotel in the evening after a day of sightseeing to rooms that has not been cleaned, mind you we left early in the morning and arrived bad late evening plenty of time to clean the rooms.
we asked the hotel to book us a car for a day excursion, the driver barely spoke english, kept trying to take us to dodgy places we do not want to go, the car was in bad condition and actually not only stalled but also blow a tire, last but not least the driver had the nerve to ask us to pay him extra.
the online booking we used to book the hotel had charged in advance and to cancel would mean that we'd lost the payment, otherwise we woud have moved out the second day. it is unfortunate that our memory of Kandy will always be colored by memories of the hotel.

Dear all
Do not be fooled by this idiot's comments. If you do so, you will be missing a treat. The rate 50US$ is the cheapest and good hotel rate you can get in Kandy. And the weather is very much cooler than the hotels you get in the city.
Please note that this is NOT a HOTEL but a VERY HOMELY, CLEAN RESORT which has European standard guest rooms built to meet guest satisfaction, ideally and lavishly furnished with every required services and comfort , open air restaurant , multy national menus and a BREATH TAKING VIEW. What else more you can get for 50 US$ ????
I only thought only the Sri Lankans are good at making stories, but I can see the Maldivians taking the cake.
For your information:
1. The Reception area was very nice.
2. There were no broken fittings.
3. The curtains were perfect and nice.
4. The mattresses were so comfortable.
The whole room was very nice, comfortable and clean.
I have already booked the hotel again in December 2012.
