“Very Nice curry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013 via mobile

The Rice and curry buffet was fantastic! A lot of choice and very well cooked. It is however quite expensive
Wanted to sleep at the hôtel but the people on the phone were horrible. No Nice contact and not helpful at all
Would suggest only the restaurant for the good Rice and curry

“Wow...if you want real gourmet ri Lankan food like you won't get anywhere else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

You have to book before 4pm to eat in the restaurant that evening. They will not let you eat if you just show up. And dinner is at 7.30 sharp. They cook their set buffet for the number booked.

The food is fantastic, the very best of Sri Lankan food we had in three months in Sri Lanka, especially for vegetarians. Set dinner is a buffet with possibly ten choices. You'll want to try them all. Most you will not have encountered before. This is not your standard rice and curry home cooking. The variety of food changes each evening and we went three times it was so good.

“Lots of curry!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

Went because it's mentioned in the lonely planet and weren't disappointed. Great variety of curries and reasonably priced. Good setup which encourages chatting with other travellers. Highly recommended!

“Overpriced Average Food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

The food itself at best was ok, there was a soup for starter which was very nice, the main course was a buffet consisting of 10 Sri Lankan dishes. Having had really good Sri Lankan food at other places since (see my other reviews for e.g. Shafa Bakery and Sri Ganeshananda Brahmins hotel), the food at Sharon Inn really wasn't anything special at all. It was certainly ok, but that's about it.

Finally for dessert there was a standard ice cream. I don't think you'll ever find good ice cream anywhere in Sri Lanka to be honest!

Given the overall quality of the food, at around 1200 rupees including tax, that is quite extortionate. If it was half the price or less I would have given it maybe 3 stars, but no more.

“Good but now getting expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Great buffet selection - 10 dishes to choose from - but the prices have gone too high. R1200 per head plus more for any drinks, which comprised of only ;water, soft drinks and beer. We got the impression that the owner was trading on past Rough Guide ratings and not really trying anymore. Still very good food and not expensive compared to home but other restaurants now offer a better option. Try the Amanda Hills hotel restaurant next door which we thought was better all round.
