“Excellent holiday.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

We travelled to the royal palms on the 1st may 2013. The hotel is fantastic. The pool is amazing. Especially if you have kids. The depth of the pool is waist height most of the way round then has a deep end near the end. It has a built in jacuzzi. The animation team is fantastic. The pool attendants very friendly. The food in the restaurant is unbelievable. We didn't have one bad meal. To much to choose from. The restaurant staff where very friendly and always made us welcome.
We travelled on a few trips and used the local guy called reshni. He was great. Nothing was to much trouble for himself he even invited us back to his home to meet his family and his mother cooked us a lovely meal. And we had a bottle of there local spirit Arrack
You can find reshni on Facebook reshni tours. His tours are very cheap but of excellent value.

A tip if it's your first time. The brochure says 1 hour from airport. It is actually 3. And that's on a good day.

Cant wait to return to Sri Lanka. And wouldn't hesitate to go back to royal palms it's fantastic.

Room Tip: Ask for the block of rooms that have already been refurbished

It is nice and relaxing to go to bed and wake up to the sound of the waves (no .. not a CD..!!). The hotel is spacious, clean, staff were welcoming and friendly, room had air con, comfortable, clean and a great view over the pool and beach. The pool was large and well maintained with sufficient sunbeds. A short walk through the garden brought you onto the beach which was clean and although the sea was quite rough it was still a nice blue.
Food was of a buffet style at breakfast and dinner. The selection was good and all cooked and tasted fresh. There was a section where the chef cooked dishes for you - the omelettes were fantastic. The dishes I liked were the dhal, fresh papaya and pineapple, and the salads.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the beach and pool

We spent the last weekend at Royal Palms, Kalutara. Royal Palms has been a favourite of ours for some time and this was our 4th visit. We appreciated the refurbished rooms, even though there are some technical defects in the bathroom. The staff were attentive as usual and the food was great. The pool at Royal Palms with its Jacuzzi and Air bubbles makes getting into the pool very interesting.

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Palms for 5 nights at the end of a hectic (but very enjoyable) Sri Lanka tour. Our (deluxe) room was large, comfortable and kept spotlessly clean. The food (we were on the full board basis) was very good. The staff were very attentive and helpful. One criticism of the restaurant was the presence of stray dogs if you chose to sit outside.

We were fortunate to be there for the Sri Lankan new year. The hotel staged a wonderful garden party with scenes from Sri Lankan culture (dance and drums) together with representations of local life and traditional food (eaten from a lily leaf), which included the opportunity to sample the local alcoholic beveridge known as 'toddy'.

All in all a lovely end to a great holiday.

Spent 6 nights at this The Royal Palm Beach including my wife's 60th birthday. Wonderful place to relax and do nothing except being pampered. All the staff were marvellous and so helpful could not do enough for us. Lovely setting on the beach. Room was spacious and well maintained. Excellent choice of food, restaurant staff really friendly. Did not wenture from the hotel as everything we wanted was available there and after 7 days of travelling around it was just what we wanted. My wife enjoyed her birthday with room being decorated, birthday cake in evening meal and all the staff including the gardeners were wishing her a happy birthday as we walked around. David Lewis

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking main part of pool great views over grounds and sea.

I have stayed in a couple of Hotels in Sri Lanka, and this hotel was not up to par in comparison with the other hotels I've stayed in. The rooms are satisfactory, they were clean and the cleaning personnel do a very good job, but its always the little things that count and could make a difference in the rooms, an example would be, FREE wifi connectivity for the rooms was not available and this was the only hotel that I've stayed in that did not have free wifi connectivity in the rooms when compared to other hotel rooms in the similar price range and little things like, bath mats for the toilet and floor carpets could make a difference in the experience. The outlook of the swimming pool was really great but the changing rooms near the pool require refurbishing entirely. The service of the staff was very good, they were very friendly (always with a smile) and helpful even at very early hours of the morning, but still needs improvement.
Overall I would say that this is a good hotel for a vacation but with more improvement it can really keep up to par with the hotels that provide rooms in the same price range and provide a different experience even in their service.
