“Fine for area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

The pool was green and did not look safe for swimming. Bathroom was old but clean. Beds were fine. The guys that run it speak only a little English but they are friendly and will arrange tuk tuks to take you around the area. Drinks for sale in reception is handy. For the area and the price this is an okay place to stay.

We moved here from Green Grass Hotel after spending one night. We moved because we thought Green Grass was over priced at 3600Rs. Blue Haven is similarly priced at 3500Rs, but has larger rooms, hence we changed hotel. The rooms were ok, clean enough, but the t.v. seldom worked e.g. It would be fuzzy then just a plain blue screen. I looked at the back of the t.v. and the issue was due to some dodgy hotel wiring. Anyhow, free wifi was provided which was fast and reliable. My main issue with Blue Haven was being ripped off by a front counter staff member. We paid him for the room and he gave us two, two hundred rupee notes in return. We thought this was strange as this was the first time we had seen these notes in our 8 week visit to Sri Lanka, however we just assumed they were new notes being introduced as they looked new. Yet, when we reached Colombo and tried to use these notes we were informed that they went out of circulation 5 years ago. Although it was only 400Rs, I don't like being cheated. Especially from a hotel. Dishonest.

We regret for the incident happened to an overseas Guest.Eventhough 200 Rs notes are not printed anymore they are still cash able in banks. We are quite happy to refund the money and request the guest to email his booking details.

We stayed there for 3 nights and had marvelous time there. After the tiring journey everyday we needed a place to crush and have hot bath, this place was suitable enough for us.We were actually lost in Jaffna town at night and we called the hotel and they actually send us a guy to guide us from where we were. The staff was very help full and food was good.if i happen to travel again ill surely stay there.

We had looked at some pretty awful options around the corner and settled for this one. There are other places in Jaffna, but some of them are frankly a rip off for what they offer - this is a good choice for the price, and our room was fine - airconditioning and bathroom.

Its an old hotel so the rooms and the bathroom have definitely seen better days, but staff were friendly, and there is free wifi in the public areas and we were lucky too that it reached our room. Breakfast is not included so you need to order the night before, and it is reasonably priced. There is also a swimming pool although it seems to be used mainly by young men, so women may not feel comfortable there.

Don't go expecting 5-star service. But for the price and considering the context and the city it was good. The staff and the manager was very helpful, friendly and in short made us feel at home. The rooms were very basic - air conditioned, but nothing else. But for the price, you really cannot expect much more. Bathrooms were old but clean.

It had a pool, which I thought needed more cleaning, which was also pretty crowded. But it was decent enough and was good to have a dip in during the evening, after a day out in the hot Jaffna sun..

Came into Jaffna during a trip with friends to the North and East of the island. We had not made any bookings and were driving around looking for a place to stay around 10pm in what seemed like a ghost town at that time. When we found this place the staff we welcomed us in and provided us with a clean a/c room. This may not be a five star hotel but the friendly accommodating staff more than made up for it. The A/c rooms and pool were certainly a welcome relief from the jaffna heat. They were willing to provide us with food and help whenever we needed it. If we ever needed help finding our way around or looking for the best places to eat or visit, the hotel staff were the first port of call. I know which hotel i'll go straight for when I visit Jaffna again. The prices as well were very reasonable.

I recently stayed here and was in fact pleased with the hotel as a whole.
I have seen the reviews many tourists have made on hotels in Jaffna in general and I think its extremely unfair for them to even make such comments.
People in Jaffna have been through so much and I personally think they have come along way. The hotels struggle with everything.... getting good food, electricity, fresh water, laundry detergent, staff and the list goes on.
I hate it when tourists come to Sri Lanka and expect to pay a dollar for their entire stay and then think they have done a favour for us Sri Lankans by coming here. Cost of living in Sri Lanka is high! we struggle daily with inflation and a weakening rupee..... and we still try to do our best to survive and make ends meet.
If you are coming to Sri Lanka, don't expect Europe (regardless of what you pay) and if your going to Jaffna please go with a open mind and heart.
The Blue Haven for me was excellent and they were constantly trying to please us and that alone made our stay memorable.
Thanks for a great stay
PS: and I'm not a staff member or anything. I live in Colombo and this was my first ever visit to Jaffna... with my family!!

Room Tip: Go with a open mind and heart... and don't expect anything.
