“Tranquil hotel in a wonderfully peaceful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

Open plan reception bar and restaurant overlooking a lake. Unusual individual bungalow style rooms in traditional Sri Lankan style and decor. Very spacious and clean rooms . Good selection of food from the freshly cooked buffet . Attentive and friendly staff . Pool clean and open until late.

Room Tip: We were in room 77. Close to main buildings and facilities but very quiet.

Went there for a vacation . Extremely satisfying experience. Felt like bliss. very close to the lake and rooms / villas are every well appointed. Lot of place to walk around. The food in the buffet restaurant was a very good. The Swimming pool also was big enough.
Free WIFI could be a very big help to tourists.

The hotel is very beautiful with very nice backgroung bordering to the Kandalama lake. We stayed in 'Signature by Amaya' which is situated in the same hotel area of this hotel. The only specification was that the room size is much bigger than the average and the price is higher. he room was nice but not worth for the money. Further, when we stay there, all the rooms of the hotel were full, therefore the service was not that much good. There is only one restaurant which is always crowded. So it is better to have one more restaurant at least when it is fully booked. The food was delicious but there was not a very big variety.

Room Tip: Basic rooms are good

Amaya Lake is situated in a wonderful place by the Kandalama Lake. One of the best places to relax with the wind coming across the Lake, silent and calm. The grounds are beautiful and plenty of place to play and for walks. We stayed at a club Lodge which was at the far end of the Hotel land. Absolute stress relief with greenery.
Hotel got a good swimming pool as well.
Rooms are larger enough and lovely. Bathroom was clean. However, though they advertised as "Plasma TV with satellite channels" we hardly found the satellite channels. Literally it was only the Plasma TVs. Most of the tv channels were not working due to not paid the bills. Only some local channels were working. When inquired by the reception, we were answered as only the LOBBY is provided with satellite channels! Disappointing !! We could not find any Bathrobes though it was indicated in their Website. Not sure the room is provided with even wifi.
Room service was average. Had to wait around 30 minutes and make 3 calls to the reception to get a buddy vehicle to get our luggage to the lobby, when we checked out.
Unless absolutely necessary you better not order anything for in-house dining or use mini bar. The Mini bar menu indicates you will be charged around Rs.300/= for a small coca cola.
Poor service by the staff as well, especially the staff in the dining area should think that a smila is priceless for them but improves the image of the Hotel a lot ! Staff is not customer-oriented, which is supposed to be the top most important thing in tourism field as per my understanding. Staff involved in room service was not that bad anyway,. The standard of the service of the staff in Dining area is so low and they are not bothered about the guests at all. When we requested for some BBQ chicken in action corner, they showed us strange faces. And when they go wrong in making it,, still they show you strange faces as if because of us they went wrong !
Food doesn't have much variety except for the breakfast. The tastes were not up to standard. They really could improve on the food.

Overall - need a second thought for a second visit.. !

Room Tip: Choose a room that is somewhat near the lobby. Else you need to travel far end to reach the rooms af...

We stayed for two nights allowing us to explore the local area. The rooms were a good size, bed comfortable. Disappointed in the bathroom as we couldn't leave the door open, the shower cubicle was very small and ours leaked as well as quite dirty grout. We also had a continual ant trail, so unable to leave our toiletry bags out. We did have an issue which the management very kindly apologised for and compensated us for, thank you. Only other issue, and more noticeable now we have stayed at more Sri Lankan hotels, the staff couldn't get that two couples traveling together in different rooms would want separate room bills, and the staff were not as friendly or happy.

We visited Amaya Lake with kids and we were favorably impressed. The grounds were beautiful and big enough for walks, the view over the lake and its wildlife was amazing, the restaurant was varied and plenty, and the service was friendly and on the spot. Highly recommendable!
