“A visit to Anuradhapura”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Having visited the historic Anuradhapura to attend a wedding , I was pleasantly surprised with the roads via Puttlam. Mind the Cops with Speed guns . but they are nice as they are just doing their job. City of Anuradhapura has been completely done up though there is some work to be completed still .
As we had to do a change, we dropped in at the Nuwara wewa Rest house which was an absolute right off .
:((
They need to get their basics right from service food cleanliness and everything else . and some better trained staff at the restaurant .
On the other hand we were pleasantly greeted by the receptionist at Hotel Miridiya. She gave us a choice of rooms, standard or deluxe category. The deluxe rooms have been recently refurbished .
I cannot comment much about the restaurant service and attitude of the housekeeping staff but this property is certainly better than the Nuwara wewa R.H.

We did not eat anyting since we were returning back .

Room Tip: Request for the deluxe rooms though you may have to pay a supplement

Arrived in town at night without a booking so we ended up here. Way overpriced, for an okay room, not very clean bathroom, and hot water not working. Hotel doesn't have wifi but they let us use their office computer briefly. Dinner was scandalously overpriced and dull, and the dining hall depressing. Nice garden.

the rooms are generally dirty, smells, old, dark with bad room lighting. the lobby has ceiling which was wet and smelly since there was some leaking. we were not given the refurbished rooms as requested earlier during booking which was very annoying and the staff just said they cant do anything abt it. breakfast was just ok. i really hope the rooms will be cleaned and renovated or at least kept clean. travelling with a 4 year old child, i was avoiding her from even using the bathroom and toilet as i was worried abt the cleaniness. management, please do something abt. this.

Our tour package did not give us a poolside room and we wish we had upgraded. The room we had in the back wing was worn, tired, and rough around the edges, but basically clean. We saw the nicer rooms while walking the grounds before check out and they look recently renovated and much nicer. The hotel has lovely grounds in the back and borders the lake and features an attractive pool area. The staff was very nice and let us use their office computers for Internet access (there's no wifi). The breakfast was good and we wished we had eaten dinner there instead of the overpriced place our driver took us to. I'd stay there again, but only in the nicer rooms. Make sure you keep windows and doors shut because while we slept the mosquito's attacked us via the bathroom window like zombie hordes.

Room Tip: Get a first floor room with pool view. Avoid the back wing.

I stayed here for two nights with a group. My room was one of the older ones on the first floor, and it was OK, though the steep steps, trip hazards and very low parapet might rule it out for infirm visitors or those with children. The only problem was that there were hundreds of mosquitoes, so I used my own mosquito net as none was provided. There was building work going on late into the night at the hotel opposite, but the noise of the aircon drowned it (for me, at least).

The property should be renamed The Mosquito Hotel. The place is overrun by them. Not just in the public areas - the lobby is infested - but the rooms are full of the creatures, making sleep virtually impossible. The bathrooms are outside the room itself, so even if you somehow get rid of all the pests in the room, everytime you need to use the bathroom, they simply swarm back in when you open the door. I've never had so many bites and thus a miserable night. They do provide a mosquito coil in the room, but it doesn't help. In the morning, I discovered there was no water in the bathroom. The taps ran for a few seconds, then dried. I had to traipse to the lobby and they offered me a run down shower in a closed room, which only had cold water. That was the best they would offer. Next door is a building site, which started drilling and hammering at 6am. The restaurant is infested with bugs too and the breakfast buffet had flies swarming over the food and dead mosquitos covering everything. I had to empty the cups of dead bugs before taking coffee. When I complained, the manager just shrugged. I refused to pay for a beer I'd had the night before and they made my tour guide pay for it instead. So much for their concern! The lobby ceiling is about to collapse due to water damage. All in all, a horrible experience.

We travelled with a group and this hotel was our first in Sri Lanka. It was very pleasant. The room had an en suite bathroom and was spotlessly clean. Furnishings were fine and although some of the furniture was a little tired, it was perfectly adequate and the air conditioning worked well. The grounds are pleasant and well tended. The restaurant provided a varied menu of well cooked food and drinks were reasonably priced. The staff were welcoming and helpful All in all a very nice introduction to the country.
