“A convenient and homely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We really enjoyed the recent two nite stay with our families. The staff members were very friendly and flexible. We stayed in deluxe rooms upstairs which are reasonably equipped with necessary facilities inlcluding hot water.

We thoroughly enjoyed Sri Lankan style meals throughout our stay where the kitchen staff sought our input in selecting dishes - their flexibility is highly admirable.

TVs in certain rooms did not have good reception, the owner said it was due to current redevelopment as they are building more rooms in the third level.
Hope we could occupy these new rooms when we return to Ceylan Lodge next time.

Room Tip: Ask for a new Deluxe room - upstairs

We stayed at Ceylan lodge for one night as part of our tour of the cultural triangle. It was close to the sites of Anuradhapura. Room was clean (basic but more than adequate) and offered great value for money. Service was good. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant - which was very tasty! Would definitely recommend as a quick, budget stopping point.

Room Tip: Currently some renovations are taking place so request a room away from any of the construction work

When we arrived, we were a little concerned as the hotel is a work in progress with construction still being undertaken on site. However, when we entered our room on the upper floor we were very pleased with the spacious room. The facilities were new, comfortable and up to the mark. The restaurant area was covered but open, as is common in Sri Lanka. We had a choice from a set menu (as part of our arrangements) for dinner and breakfast. The food was good and generous, while the restaurant staff were very pleasant.
The hotel is a distance from the centre of Anuradhapura, but is reasonable to walk there.

Room Tip: Ask for a newer room; we found the top level room excellent.

Last year i stayed at this hotel and I liked it much. This year my friends and I travelled from the west to the east of Sri Lanka and we decided to stay in Anuradhapura at Ceylan Lodge for 2 days.

I was amazed with new delux rooms on the second floor: all facilities are new, the room is big, everything is clean (10 hotels i stayed at before seemed to be not tidy).

The staff are friendly, the food is delicious served like european.

Ceylan Lodge is one of the better hotels in the area I advise you to stay in the newer section of the hotel.

Room Tip: I stayed at room 10. I enjoyed it much.

We stayed at Ceylan last night and it was amazing. Very spacious room. It matters to us as we have a 16-month old baby :) the staff were courteous and the breakfast was generous! We arranged for a tour in the hotel and the driver with his friend who also works at Ceylan took us to mihitale, ritigala, sigriya, and dambula. We tipped them generously for their amazing service. They were very patient and not too fussy as we move at a slower phase because we havr a baby. They didn't try to bring us to shops or expensive restaurants. We really went to places that we wanted to see, it's amazing! :) I'd stay in this place again and recommend it to friends :)

They are still building up at the restaurant part and I think they will build more room in the near future. The deluxe room is clean and big, AC works. the shower holder is broken so it's quite inconvenient to shower, plus the drainage does not work well. The bed is firm and good.

They used the cheap and quite horrible scented spray that really devalue the room. Also everything seems nice at first look but if you are looking closer, the details are pretty bad and things can be fallen out any minute.

Restaurant food is quite horrible and very expensive. With same price we had a great dinner at Milano guesthouse plus starter and dessert. Breakfast is a joke.

There are tons of mosquitoes at the hall way so keep all the doors close, even the bathroom doors to prevent them coming in at night time.

The receptionist is very helpful.

We arrived late and departed early. It's clean, efficient, simple... Some rooms have air conditioning and others not. Make sure to request a mosquito net as Anuradhapura has many flying friends! The food was delicious and cooked especially for us, though a bit pricey. They also prepared breakfast earlier than they usually do as we needed to leave before 7am. Service was quite good. A great place to stay for the simple budget family.
