“Gorgeous location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We had read all the bad reviews so came prepared but honestly: we loved the place! The beach is nice, and despite what everyone says, the beds and umbrellas are free for guests. The food is very good. People are very friendly. Call ahead when you arrive, then they will come pick your luggage up by boat, as it is a few hundred meters from the carparc. The rooms was small but with well functioning airco and good beds. Plenty of clean towels. The location itself makes up for evrything else, including the non-functioning wifi. We did advice the manager to allow guests to open a tab, that would be more convenient.

We did not stay in the accommodation, but we did use the beach and bar, part of this location's service and open to the public. These are by a promontory of Rose's harbour, underneath a small former Austro-Hungarian fortress, Forte Rose, which is now a restaurant.

The beach front is packed with plastic sunbeds and a sultan/pasha fourposter cotton sunbed. Entrance to the sea is not exactly safe, as the metal ladder by which you climb down is very poorly fitted and slippery. There is a grave danger as fast speed boats and large cruising vessels pass by of huge waves being generated by which you can be very badly hurt if you are swimming and you are washed hard against the small dock walls by the fortress.

The bar tables on the promontory itself seem to have been converted from bar use to restaurant usage.

Not exactly inviting.

There used to be a diving school here but that seems to have gone.

This hotel has a fantastic setting on the water and great views. The rooms, however, are old and basic. Yes, you do get an old fridge and a television, but the mod cons end there. The bathrooms are quite spartan and, in fact, there is no separate floor for the shower - so, when you bathe, you flood the bathroom/toilet floor. You do get a mop though! The windows and frames in my room were all broken and it doesn't look as though there has been any serious maintenance for quite some time. This is possibly 3 star accommodation, but less more likely. It is not 4 star as promoted on the brochure. There is no reception area, but the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves fine food in a very cosy environment and there is also a separate bar area. In short, this hotel has an excellent location but is in need of a serious upgrade.

When we first arrived we couldn't help but feel disappointed and misled.

We stayed in a 'Superior' room at Forte Rose for two nights at the end of a trip to Croatia. We were looking for some peace and quiet, a lovely view and some general chill out time.

The hotel is about 45 mins from the nearest town - there is no ATM at the hotel or facility to open a tab on your room, so bring cash; you can pay on card but it will restrict you to eating only at the hotel.

There is no reception, we were simply greeted by a man who wandered out of the restaurant and asked who we were, any question we had he said ok - it therefore would have been helpful if a info sheet/guide answering some frequently asked questions had been in the room, maybe info such as the nearest ATM. We ended up driving all the way back to Tivat and then around for another 30 mins looking for an ATM. This irritated us and gave us a bad first impression.

We also booked a 'Superior' room - there was nothing superior about the actual room it was very basic, no mini bar/fridge, the tv didn't work properly; the view however was beautiful and that really cheered us up. The room was also ridiculously close to the bar and the lovely euro trance music could be heard loud and clear whilst we settled into our room and cooled down from the heat outside. Alongside this, every time we went outside people sitting in the bar could get a nice view into your room and seemed to enjoy a good snoop.

The restaurant was ok, we ate the included breakfast there and also some dessert after dinner at another restaurant. Slightly further down the bay there are two other restaurants, the one nearest to the car park is lovely, stunning views from the pier as you eat, delicious food that is great value for money as well.

Overall we felt slightly misled by the images etc online, it was so busy when we arrived and after lugging our cases along the bay in the heat we felt really disappointed with this little luxury at the end of our trip.
