Before staying in here, make sure you arrive with the idea of enjoying the experience.

An amazing environment. This place has something I am not able to describe. This place is a gift to your five senses. The view from the bar invites guests to spend hours in there.

It is pointless to try to provide more descriptions about the place.

Go there and discover it by yourself. I am sure that you will never forget this place.

When you've traveled for almost 11 hours and trekked for more than an hour going to batad village, its is just ecstatic to sit on the balcony of this inn and stare at UNESCO's World Heritage Site-- Batad Rice Terraces! Amazing view! The rooms are basic but clean and nice. No aircon but who needs it anyway, the weather is cold and great. We are on the second floor and to reach the toilet and bath, you have to go down the stairs which is not an issue for me, it reminds me of my granny's house in our province. When taking a bath in the evening, i decided not to use the lamp because it attracted SO MANY MOTHS, not that im complaining :)

The inn keepers are very friendly and are always smiling.

You are paying for the view here, and it is well worth it. Room costs are reasonable (make sure you get the rooms acing the terraces) and are the simplest available - nothing more than two beds and a window (we recommend bringing your own mosquito net along). The restaurant and bar have the same fantastic view and serve decent, affordable meals including a tasty choc-banana pancake. Our guide, Benny, happened to be the owner's nephew, a true Batadi local with a real feel for the area, and he was very handy and pleasant to have around.

A stay of two nights should be more than enough to get your fill of Batad, and this is the best place to do it.

Our Batad experience is one of a kind! We have seen various places in the Philippines and around Asia and we should say that Batad is on our top lost for revisiting. Add to this is our wonderful stay at the Hillside Inn. The owner, Mirza, is very helpful while his husband, Pedro, a retired school supervisor, is a jolly host who educated us of the culture and tradition of the place. The location of the inn is just perfect as it seats at the center of a hillside where you get to see the best view of the rice terraces. Mirza gave us a room at the floor just above the restaurant, it was the best. The bathrooms may be shared but it is clean and the hot shower makes it more soothing. We highly recommend this simple but heart warming place to stay. I got this contact from their menu.

We hiked up to the saddle from Batad junction and down the other side into Batad. Justin from People's Resthouse in Banaue recommended Hillside and we weren't disappointed. We had room 2 with two double beds so plenty of blankets and pillows. The view from the window over the rice terraces was amazing. The shared toilets were clean and the shower was one of the best in the Philippines - a solar-powered hot monsoon shower. The restaurant underneath served good food at reasonable prices with the same terrace views. And it was a great place to meet other backpackers from all over the world. The Batad experience was wonderful.

Room Tip: There are no ATMs for foreign cards in Sagada, Bontoc, Banaue or Batad - get plenty of money out in...
