“OASIS!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

Is just so beautiful! I went there last month I did some sandboarding with some guys from my hostel. It was sooo funny. You dont need to be a proffesional to do it.

“Stop there on way to Cuzco!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

This place is amazing itselfs. Big sand mountains around cute oasis like from dreams. Only thing what you can dislike is numbers of tourism hostels around the lake. Anyway beeing there you have to try sandboarding and just walk around hills and feel like at the middle of the desert. Car ride also looks nice but I didn't try it.

“Sand boarding = Great! Oasis was a disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

I stayed in Ica for 2 nights and came to the oasis in the afternoon for sandboarding, which was amazing. The dunes were beautiful and like nothing i've seen before. Since it was so close to our hotel in Ica it was worth the visit for the sandboarding. I expected the Lagoon to be a bit nicer, We planned on doing dinner/drinks along the water after sandboarding but all the restaurants looked like dumps. We ended up going back to our hotel for a nice meal.

“surprisingly fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We passed through Huacachina with a group on a motorcycle tour, and really hadn't looked into this place very seriously. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our Peru trip! As others have said, its very much a touristy place, but piling our entire group into a monster V8 powered dune buggy was absolutely hilarious! I'm sure our screams of appreciation just egged our driver on, and he gave us an amazing ride through the dunes. A few of us tried standing on the sand boards and failed miserably, but we all had a great deal of fun once our driver convinced us to lie face down on the board. I had no idea that such a place existed in Peru, and we enjoyed every minute of it.

“great fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Piling about 10-15 people into a dune buggy wasnt too appealing, it was a tight fit for most but it ended up being quite a thrill. I would highly recommend it. The oasis is full of backpackers passing through, hooking up, and in general recahrging their batteries on their way through tis desolate region of the country. It appears a few had managed to stay as their accent laden spanish seemed to indicate. The dune buggy was loud, if you have sound attenuation use it, the sand is pretty warm, even in the middle of winter. the sand boarding can be tried standing up, its pretty easy dont be intimidated by the great heights. the only thing i would have liked would have been to get a film of the ride. the ups and downs were exhiliarating.
