“Perfect place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013 via mobile

What a beautiful hotel. Conveniently located near the train station and bus stop to Machu Picchu. Great service. My only complaint is that there is no A/C and the room was stuffy. We had to keep the windows closed because of the mosquitos. Other than that, we spent a very enjoyable 2 days here.

PROS: 1.) Food was fantastic! The breakfast buffet and evening dinners were both top notch, and included with our room price. The 10% gratuity was already included. 2.) The hotel lobby and bar areas are warm and inviting. 3.) I really liked the location, since it was far enough away from bustle and noise of the town center, but close enough to walk for exploring.

CONS:
1.) The massage I had at the spa was just "fair". The therapist didn't accommodate my requests for work on specific areas and just did her routine massage (although it was the "hot stone" therapy, which I admit could be more difficult to customize). 2.) The standard room and Junior suite did not have any work surface or chair to write postcards or work on a laptop. 3.) The water from the faucet was not very clear. The bath water looked murky and brown, sort of like the river water (which was very muddy from all of the recent rains). But I still seemed to have that "clean feeling" when I got out, so maybe it was just that their filters were overloaded from the mud in the river water and could not remove all of the minerals) . 4.) The prices for alcoholic drinks seemed way overpriced, even for a touristy type hotel. A glass of the house red wine was over US$12.00.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for the "Junior Suite". It was almost $75 more per night, and all you...

Just what you need after a tour up at Machu Picchu. A well appointed hotel with very helpful staff. Get to the free cooking class if you can as it is well worth an hour of your time and a great time filler should you be waiting to return to Cusco by train in the afternoon. Must say it was an unexpected pleasure staying at the Sumaq.

The Sumaq is a luxurious hotel which is very nicely decorated with Peruvian art, we had a lovely welcome and were given pisco sour as a welcome drink and had an opportunity to book places for the cookery demonstration the following day.The bedroom was huge, beautifully decorated and furnished with two extremely comfortable large beds. The room had a balcony which overlooked the river. The evening meal was lovely with excellent service and there was a very nice choice of food for breakfast. We enjoyed the cookery demonstration where we learnt how to make cervice and pisco sour. The hotel is well situated to catch the bus to Machu Pichu and the train to Cusco. The only down side was we didn't have any hot water in the morning for a shower! We only stayed one night but wished we could have stayed longer.

Great hotel in Aguas Calientes. They take great care of you from the moment you walk into the hotel. The room had everything we needed. Once you arrive there is no need to leave as the room price included a 3 course dinner as well as breakfast, something they call half board. Great value when you include dinner and breakfast. My wife and I enjoyed one of our favorite meals at Sumaq in comparison to the rest of our trip. Since we showed up with minimal luggage, we only had our hiking shoes. Luckily each room is equipped with some slippers so our feet got a little break as well.

The bus to Machu Picchu picked us up right from the hotel in the morning without any issues. Another great feature of this hotel is that it is located right next to a free hike (about 3 hours) up the putucusi mountain that is located immediately beside the hotel. My wife and I didn't challenge this hike as we did others within the Machu Picchu Grounds, but if we had a 3rd day, we would have attacked this hike for sure.

Great Hotel, great food, great everything.

The only bad thing to say is that we didn't stay longer! The staff was extremely professional. They went out of their way to assist us in every way possible. The food and service was top notch. The rooms were palatial, decorated perfectly and so comfortable. This hotel is a must for anyone coming to Aquas Calientes.

Room Tip: get a room overlooking the river is possible

We got here from El Valle Sacrado and spent two nights in Aguas Callientes. The kids menu was great. My dad didn't eat much because he got altitude sickness but the few bites he did eat he said he liked. The day we went to Machu Picchu they sent one of the people who worked there down to wait in line for us, and then after we had gotten ready we got on and he got off. He saved us front row seats! The only downside of this hotel is that about once an hour the train would speed by our room and wake us up. The last part was slightly unpleasant but totally worth the rest of the experience!

Room Tip: "Rooms on the right have no train noise"
