“Intrepid explorer's retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Nov 2012. This was our second visit to Peru and we wanted to spend more on experiences and less on the hotel so opted for El Mapi. For the price we expected it to be very basic but were very pleasantly surprised. The bed was HUGE, the room was quiet even though it was virtually above the bar, the bed was extremely comfortable and fresh, the bathroom even had little extra touches with bottles of water and lemon sweets. The restaurant was very good and the food could not be faulted. Staff very friendly and helpful. Everyone was given a complimentary Pisco Sours on arrival. The only down side (if any) was that the 2 for 1 at happy hour was very very small. The hotel was very central for exploring Aguas Calientes and after several days walking, climbing, internal flights, hopping on and off coaches and getting up extremely early every day (and a bout of altitiude sickness en route) this was JUST what we needed!!!!

If it weren't for Machu Picchu and the expense of other hotels, this was just ok for me. It's perfectly fine and provides a place to stay. So when comparing it to other options it's probably great value which makes rating very hard. The bar was a neat spot though and the food in the restaurant was reasonably good.

El Mapi was a really nice haven of peace in a really bustling little place that was at times overwhelming.
There were lovely little gardens and outside our room we watched a hummingbird feeding on beautiful bright flowers. The room was really comfortable. We ate a few times at the restaurant and the food was a reasonable price and very good quality as was the brekfast.
The hotel was clean and modern with nice staff who were very helpful. It is worth paying a bit extra in this little place and staying here as the place itself can get a bit tiresome with the continual comings and goings so this gives you time to relax.

Stayed here just 1 night and wished it could have been longer! Rooms were small but spotlessly clean and so well appointed, There was everything one needed. Beds were very comfortable and the pillows (well after a strenuous day at Machu Picchu and a challenging climb up Machu Picchu Mountain which is double the height of Wyana Pichhu) were just right!! Quality of food at dinner and service was excellent and so was the local band that entertained. Breakfast was just as good large variety with eggs to order. Good value for money.

We stayed here just 1 night before Machu Pichu hike. It is contemporary boutique style hotel with different writings on the wall inside the room. Very clean and service is good. They initially gave a room with 2 twin beds. They immediately honored our request to change the room so a single bedroom and upgraded us to a suite. One recommendation i have is to add a bit more classy amenities in the room to really make it look like a 4 star hotel in a small quite place like Agua Calientes. Great location.

Room Tip: Suites room are definitely better than plain rooms.

The design of this hotel is simple and exquisite at the same time. A pleasant surprise in the middle of a classic Peruvian village. The restaurant was stunning, the food was delicious and fresh and the service staff where helpful and cheerful!

El Mapi, short for the Macchu Picchu is on a busy street with restaurants and shops in the middle of town. It is built on many levels with lovely greenery. There is no elevator. The staff is very helpful. The rooms are modern and sleek and roomier than some hotels. The city is very safe. It is the gateway to the amazing Inca ruins. There is a lot of construction going on on all sides of this hotel and they start construction at 7 am but if you are going to see the ruins you have to get up early anyway!

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor if climbing stairs is a problem. Try to get a quiet location
