“Decent for a one night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014

Stayed here as part of our 2 day/1 night tour with Llama Path. The place is decent, nothing spectacular. We wouldn't book it if it were our choice, but for one night, it was OK. Apparently each room has two beds: a twin and a full. Bathroom floor got extremely wet very easily and towels remained damp. The windows also let some mosquitoes in, but keep the bathroom door closed, and you'll be fine. The hotel is right across from the river. The noise kept us awake since we went during the rainy season and the river was turbulent. The breakfast buffet was actually decent.

Stayed one night as part of my trip to Machu Pichu. Location doesn´t matter as long as the town is very small and everything is close. The access is quite difficult as you have to walk from the train station to the hotel (there are no cars or taxis in Aguas Calientes); the street is being remodeling since the last flood (a couple of years ago?) and it looks like it will take another couple of years to be done...
The staff was very friendly and helpful but the room was a deal breaker. Yes, a nice view over the roaring river but it looks like it was decorated by a competitor: the room was huge but there was just a bed and a small chair against the wall. That´s it. The rest of the space looked like a dancing ballroom! Funny but too tired to dance La Conga.
Did I mention anything about the temperature? Cold. It was cold. They call Summer and therefore heaters should be away but it was cold. It didn´t help that the attic door was nonexistent and the cold wind sneaked by the stairs to the hallway. Luckily it was the wind not a thief.
The breakfast was good enough although it was a little intimidating to have breakfast in a silent morning and an empty room while two girls standing at the buffet table and accustomed as a waitresses were constantly looking at you...

They are located a short walk down from the train station. It is located second to the last hotel from the end. While we were there they were doing work on the road. It made it kind of muddy. Along the walk to the hotel you will pass by the sign for Machu Picchu Pueblo. Which they light up at night and is pretty.
Our room was located on the third flood facing the river. You can go out on the balcony and listen to the river rapids run by. Also you can see a hint of part of Machu Picchu.
The rooms are simple, but clean. As with most hotels or Inns they provide breakfast. Their breakfast was very tasty. One unique thing about the lobby are the tables. They are made of wood with glass tops, but have Peruvian designs made of beans and corn under the glass. They also have an bar and fireplace in their lobby.

Room Tip: If you do a two day tour of Machu Picchu they will hold your luggage and bring it to the train stati...

Santuario is located at the edge of town on the road to Machu Picchu. It is a basic hotel, good for 1 to 2 nights especially for hikers. Room was small but clean, minimum furniture, tv, full size bed, armoire, table and 2 chairs. Bathroom recently renovated with contemporary fixtures.

The hotel lobby, restaurant and room was clean.

Our breakfast was very good with a good choice of items.

There is a small bar and an enclosed outside sitting area. It is a quiet location.

Main drawback, there is no elevator in the building so you have to handle your own luggage up to your room.

Room Tip: Room on the front side of hotel

Our tour operator booked the hotel. Very nice lobby, room was fairly good sized, clean and neat. Bathroom was smaller, basic tile, clean and functional. Bed was comfortable. The room was on second floor and windows overlooked a small enclosed courtyard. Room was quiet. It appeared that the floor had been recently renovated. Breakfast was good, eggs or omelette cooked to order. Staff was friendly and helpful, and especially nice to my wife when she arrived not feeling well. The river was not running heavily and others in our party with rooms in the front did not mention noise. The hotel was just down the hill from the train station and main town market area, maybe a five minute walk. Not a bad location.

We were booked in here by our tour operator, for one night after doing the Inca Trail. Initial impression of front desk area was good, clean area, nice outlook of river.
Our room was dated, but clean, with good linen and comfortable bed. Bathroom was small, with basic shower. No facilities in room to making a drink and no fridge.
At first the noise of the river was a talking point, and it is certainly a fearsome sight. However, the noise is thunderous, and never lets up. We were on the second floor, in the corner room, and could hear it all the time - so do consider this if you want a quiet nights sleep, because it is not possible here.
The following day, on going down for breakfast, we were greeted with stone cold toast, stone cold pancakes, stale bread - all of which had obviously been out for a good hour or so, and a member of staff who watched our every move ..... most off-putting. When we asked the staff member why there was no hot toast, she just shrugged, and then proceeded to touch every piece of toast that was on display.
This hotel is located at the lower end of Aguas Calientes, away from the main tourist areas and train station, but a short 5-10 minute walk.
Not a bad hotel, but am sure there are better in same price-range.

Room Tip: Consider the noise of the river - may be difficult to get away from it.
