“No Frills - But Completely Adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

Inti Punku is not a luxury option by any stretch, but it is well situated, clean and reasonably priced (compared to higher-end hotels in Aguas Calientes or the Sanctuary Lodge). We figured that 4 or 5 times as much for the room was silly to spend considering we'd only be there for such a short time and we didn't come for the hotel anyway.

Room rates would easily be about half - or less - the price if the hotel wasn't so close to Machu Picchu - but, Machu Picchu is a 25 minute bus ride away and the rates are what they are. That said, our river facing room was wonderfully noisy (we loved the sound of rushing water from outside) and slept better than almost anywhere else in Peru. The bathroom was big with a large tub and shower, there was a fireplace that we didn't use but that gave off a smokey smell, the air was also a bit damp from the river, the elevator smelled like wet mops because of damp air in the shaft and breakfast was just fine... nothing special.

One nice surprise was that dinner was included with the room at a next door restaurant which also had a live (and kitschy fun) show. All in all, I'd recommend Inti Punku not because it's a great hotel but because of price, we slept very well and we liked the ease of getting in and out - dinner was a nice touch too.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a river facing room and bring earplugs if you don't like noise while you slee...

We stayed here for 2 nights during our visit to Machu Picchu. We booked another hotel that wasn't great, so we wandered from the train station to find this hotel just 5 minutes away.

The breakfast spread was reasonably good, the room was clean but outdated, and the bathroom was very mediocre. It's 5 minutes from the train station, and walking distance to the bus station (that takes you up to Machu Picchu) and the main street with many restaurants.

For a night or two, it's ok, but there are certainly nicer hotels in town!

We paid about US$60 for this hotel which is not alot, but the bed is like sleeping on uneven timber floorboards. Would probably recommend researching a few other options before trying this one.

This hotel is overlooking the train stain. The rep did not meet us at the train station, so thankfully another worker showed us to the hotel. (Take a right out of the station, once you pass the market, take a right and the hotel is a couple buildings down on the left.) It's definitely bare bones, but it worked for us. Bathroom and sheets were clean. It was noisy and the windows are really thin, so closing them doesn't really help. Like most people, we were only there one night and were up at 5am to get to Machu Picchu for sunrise, so we weren't bothered by the morning trains. There was an evening midnight-ish train that woke up my friend, but with my earplugs, I didn't hear a thing.
They have a tv, but need special skills to get it to work. There is an area with two computers (no wireless) and a tv. Breakfast was fine and it was great that it started at 5am, so we could grab a little something prior to heading up to Machu Picchu. If you're looking for a decent place to stay for a night, I would recommend it.

Room Tip: No elevator, so get a lower flr rm.

Room clean, good size for three beds. Beds comfy but as usual ear plugs required. Bathroom clean, plenty hot water and towels. TV worked, true not a lot of storage but then most people don't stay more than a night or two. Breakfast ok (a little heavy on the salt), internet and a little seating area with a couple of easy chairs and a settee beside it. Staff friendly and helpful - limited english. The hotel stored our bags for us and offered us the use of the 'lounge area' when we returned to collect them as we still had a couple of hours before the train back down.

I can but echo what others have said - this hotel is right by the train station. But there again Aguas Calientes is just a tourist town strung out along the railway track. It is up to you to decide if the noise is a problem

For us the warmth and helpfulness of the staff, plus the quality of the bedroom were the high point. We only stayed one night - the cost of the day ticket to Machu Picchu is so prohibitively high that most tourists are only in the town one night. You get up early, get up to MC at dawn, spend several hours there, then back down to AC and the train back to Cusco.

So if you want somewhere central, with nice staff and a comfortable room, offering by local standards value for money (and are not put off by the train issue) then you have to stay here.

I would recommend the hotel and if I ever returned would stay here again
