We were told this was the best hotel on the island and it was very nice by Nicaraguan standards.
The rooms are set along the slope down to the sea and some have a view of the beach, although we noticed that some have no view and are on a main walkway to the restaurant. I would try to avoid these as it means you can't really relax on your terrace.
The terraces have tables, chairs and a hammock.
The rooms are basic but clean. We shared ours with a gecko but he was no trouble!
Our air conditioning was very noisy, with no thermostat. We opted to manage without it.
The food in the restaurant was good, especially the fish dishes, which are caught locally.
The only real drawback was the distance from the ferry port. It took nearly an hour to reach the hotel as a lot of it is on unmade roads.

“pretty good”

Pretty good service.....friendly staff.....nice setting....what wow-ed us was how fast they got the electric back on after the power outages...the lights go out and then you hear 5 or 6 guys running around the grounds in the dark w/ flashlights and a few minutes later the generator is going!
we stayed in a cabina....it was decent...kinda felt like they got everything at a 1970's yardsale....but it was clean and had a/c and a nice patio w/ hammocks out front.
make sure you check out 'the eye of the water' a nearby cold spring which is super refreshing!
oh and the food at the restaurant is pretty good too....but watch out for the big blue birds when you're eating they'll steal the food right out of your hand.

We only stayed on the isla de ometepe for 1 night. We had heard that this was the best hotel on the island, while it was not the best hotel i have stayed in but it was nicer compared to the rest of the hotels we saw on the island. It's a rather far distance from the ferry port and you have to take a very bumpy road to get there. The staff was ok, not super friendly but we didn't have any problems with them. They have internet access which you pay per hour, and their restaurant was just ok (they did have very good Avena). The cabins are very nice they have full glass doors which makes for a very nice view. We stayed in cabin 22, it was facing the beach. It was clean and that's all we ask for. The only thing we did not like was that the bathroom door had glass panels so you could see right in when someone was going to the bathroom, kinda awkward. We did have gecko's visit us in the night and they were making their calls all night long, needless to say i did not sleep very well. It was a good experience in general though.

Cabana 25 had cockroaches, but a great view and very quiet. for 53 USD a night. When we ordered a shuttle to go back to the ferry, they asked us if it was ok if some "workers" could share our shuttle. We agreed wholehartedly, but when the "workers" got into the back, I realized that they were the people from our neighbouring cabin, not workers. Then when we got to the ferry we all bought tickets including the family who were supposed to be workers, even though I had asked the driver in spanish and he told me these "workers" were a family from managua who were heading home. Then the driver left and about 30 min. later tracked us down at a cafe and held out a cell phone where the guy at the front desk demanded $20 US for the shuttle ride to the ferry, saying it was not included in the hotel bill. But I know that the family of pretend workers did not pay a cent and that we were lied to as a sort of "gringo" tax to try and get money out of us. So we agreed to pay half of that price since I told the man that 6 people had taken the shuttle to the ferry and we were not going to pay for the "workers" free ride (who were carrying suitcases and digital cameras and could well have afforded to pay for the ride themselves). I felt disgusted by their lies here. I would not recommend going here. They made me feel unhappy about my stay on Ometepe and I wont go back.

We planned on staying at Villa Paraiso for 4 nights but cut our stay short because of the lackluster staff and the unclean and unsanitary accomodations. While the views were spectacular the rooms were not. When we arrived, our room needed to be cleaned of what we later learned was gecko poop. Every time we would leave our room for a few hours we would return to find droppings on the bed and floor.

Many of the hotel staff seemed disinterested, preoccupied and unhelpful when it came time for meals and general hotel duties. My girlfriend and I speak basic Spanish but found it difficult to feel comfortable at the hotel. The feeeling at Villa Paraiso is anything but warm and welcoming.

This continued for 3 days before we could take it no longer.

My girfriend and I have visited over 40 countries between the two of us. We have stayed at many many hotels and hostels around the world. We feel that Villa Paraiso may have seen better days.

Definitely do visit Isla de Ometepe but perhaps seek other accomodations.
