An outstanding location on the east-facing beach, right next to the main (unpaved) road with regular bus service to Altagracia and other towns both north and south of Santo Domingo. There are great views down the coast to Maderas volcano. The covered patio serves as the dining area, overlooking the beach. (Watch out for the urracas -- magpies -- who wait impatiently for you to finish your meal so they can sweep in and take away anything left over. And sometimes they don't bother to wait.) A steady lake breeze keeps the heat down and the mosquitos away. In contrast to the hotel's location, however, our room was dismal -- a featureless concrete box with a bathroom (cold water only) up two very high steps. The air conditioner worked, though it wasn't much needed with the breeze; no TV and no on-site internet service (allegedly it was "being repaired"). Terrible housekeeping; we always had to ask for fresh towels, and there was no attempt on the staff's part to clean the room or bathroom.
