We were in Merzouga for two nights this past March. We were travelling with our two kids ages 11 and 14. We had booked our trip to Morocco with Blue Men of Morocco and they run Haven La Chance in Merzouga. We loved our whole trip to Morocco (particularly our driver Zaid). We found Abraham and the others who worked at Haven La Chance to be very friendly and helpful. Abraham played soccer with our son while the rest of us napped, and we enjoyed playing drums with all of them one night at dinner.

The rooms are actually pretty nice, a good size as well as the bathrooms. There was no heat, but each room had it's own space heater - although we didn't need to use it. We had two bedrooms each with their own bathroom, but they also have community bedrooms and bathroom. I walked inside the community bathroom to check it out and found it to be very nice.

From here we took off on our desert trip on the camels which was excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Merzouga at Haven La Chance

We stayed here for 2 nights as a triple set up. Second stop on a 5 city stay in morocco. The moment we near merzouga the dominating sand
dunes set an imposing scene and the hotel was nearer to dunes than we expected.

We received such a warm wlecome from Omar who said he was in charge of the place while Elena from Blue Men of Morocco was back in spain. Are luggage was prompty taken in and we were taken onto the roof for an amazing view of the dunes and a cup of mint tea.

Rooms were simple but clean and adequate. During the stay we visited the local village and had berber pizza at omars family home. We also wisited another nearby village to listen to some traditional Gnoua music. There was also the possibility of seeing some flamingos at the lake near to the hotel but sadly when we went we were out of luck and did not see any.

The second night we packed a small bag and headed out on a 2 hour camel trek into the sahara to spend a night out there. This was a calm trip and due to it being out of peak time we did not see many other people out there. Hassan our camel guide made a lovely tajine dinner and we spent the night under the stars. However I must add the nights were very cold in spring and to recommend taking very warm clothes to wear following sunset.

The serentity of the desert is just as I imagined, a must for anyone who hasnot experienced this before

“Staying clos to the sand dunes and closer to the inhabitants”

Haven La Chance Desert Hotel

Dec 21, 2006

Staying here from Dec. 15th to Dec. 17th 2006 for watching
the "Water Of Life" - concert of Jean MIchel Jarre and it was
a new, but great experience. Meet very friendly people and
learn to know the traditional food of Morocco in a very good
quality. For visitors, that like it more traditional, berber tents in
the garden available. Learn to know the service of the desert!
From here camel trips to the sun set in the sand dunes available,
what is an absolute great experience, that you never will forget.
Try it - and you will be more happy in your life! All the best
to the team - Michael, the snorer

“Fantastic location, personal service and great hotel”

We travelled to Merzouga for the concert by Jean Michel Jarre in the Sahara Desert. As someone accustomed to "comfortable" travel, I must admit to travelling with some trepidation.

We booked our transport from Ouarzazate and hotel accommodation in Merzouga via Blue Men (owners of this hotel). The driver (Zaid) arrived promptly in a comfortable 4x4 and drove us for 5 hours to Merzouga. He was then very, very accommodating during our stay to ferry us around Merzouga and close villages - nothing seemed to be too much trouble for him.

Elena of Blue Men gave us fantastic advice and help before travelling and made us feel at ease travelling to this fairly remote location. The hotel in Merzouga was great - very comfortable, excellent food and the staff very friendly and helpful. Of course, the temperatures at night were cold, but as long as you go prepared with plenty of layers, it is fine.

I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Men, Zaid and this hotel. If you are travelling to Merzouga, then this is a great way to do it.

I was there for the (fantastic!) Jean Michel Jarre "Water for Life" concert of 16 December 2006.

The hotel is just great. I had a double room with AC power, hot shower and a regular (western) toilet. It was a basic room (no heating) but that was never a problem for me. The room was clean, large enough, the bed was fine, I slept like a desert rose.

The hotel staff spoke Arab (or course), French and sufficient English (some more than others).

The hotel sold bottles of water, and was aware that people can become sick from drinking local tap water so they didn't use local tap water when making salad for dinner. The food was fresh, plenty, and local style. I liked it a lot.

The hotel is next to the dunes (Erg Chebbi) so I just walked into the dunes with some friends when I felt like it.

The staff at the hotel was very friendly, and worked very hard to accomodate my needs. Breakfast at 10 am, diner at 4 pm, together with all the other Jarre fans staying in the same hotel, no problem, it was all done with a smile.

The driver who drove me and my friends around (Zaid) and who is part of the Blue Men team (I think), was a great guy with a lot of humor. He not only drove well (and fast), but also helped out a lot in the hotel and acted as our tour guide.

I loved my short stay, and wish I had had more time there to see and experience more.
