“pros and cons”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

pros: a short walk to town; parking neaby with guard; a lovely garden area with pool; room nicely decorated, clean; and bathroom with a great shower (hot water and super water pressure on top floor); super breakfast (although not consistent for the 3 mornings)

cons: lots of noise! can hear almost everything in adjoining rooms or if above kitchen area also...along with smells; no food service in afternoon (not even fries, salad, sandwich) and since hotel is out of town, too far too leave for a quick bite if you just returned from a long hike in the mountains or around town and just want to sit by the pool; dinner was fine - nothing exceptional but nice with the option of a vegetable tagine; wireless only availble on main floor near reception or garden area nearby.

We found the Dar Echchaouen to be a lovely place to spend a few nights in beautiful Chefchaouen. The hotel itself was beautiful, staff were attentive and the pool (very clean, might I add) made for a refreshing pause from the hot Moroccan sun. The room we stayed in was perfect - although, being in the countryside, we did wake quite early to the sounds of various animals (roosters across town, goats, dogs, etc.). They served the most amazing traditional breakfast - a variety of bread, honey, cheese, olives, and freshly-squeezed orange juice, as well as the best mint tea during our whole trip to Morocco.

A nice change from chain hotels. Rooms are lovely, and each one different, swimming pool in lovely garden courtyard, view at sunset just sublime. We found the service to be OK although the laundry service was a tad slow, but that may have been due to the quantity that our group submitted. Our older friends found the stairs a challenge but staff took the bags up and down cheerfully when asked. Would definitely stay here again.

After spending days at peaceful, beautiful, tranquil riads that were once beautiful houses of people, I arrived at this hotel expecting it to be another one...which was probably a mistake since this is actually more of a "hotel", an economical one. It calls itself riad, but it is not at all an experience one would have at the typical Moroccan riad. If you walk in knowing that this is a cutely decorated hotel with a regional theme, it might not at all disappoint you.
As this place is a bit away from the center of the city, we had a chance to take a little walk to the town...which was a good experience.

Room Tip: Economy room is good, but try to get rooms away from the front lobby if possible. Expect noises as t...

The location of Dar Echchaouen is stunning.
However, the staff does not rise to the level of expectations raised by the reviews, etc.
Upon arrival we were questioned over printed out confirmations of booking, reference numbers, etc. Having had everything on the email (including a conversation with manager about a baby cot) I was very surprised to be shouted at by the receptionist. He started questioning my name, date of birth, etc.... That was a little bit weird. Even though I was stood in front of him with my phone, showing him all the details.
After a long wait at the dining room, where we were left unattended, we checked into our room, which was beautiful, overlooking the village. However, we couldn't get out of it. When we called reception, the same guy told us that we are doing it wrong. He was very patronising, too.
When we finally got out with the help of a random guest who came to answer our shouting we spoke to the reception guy in person, but he didn't change his attitude and didn't even want to listen to our explanation, again, assuming that we are so stupid that we can't even open the door from the inside of our room. We then spotted another member of the staff who was kind enough to actually go up and see the problem, and admitted the door was broken and fixed the lock.
There was no baby cot in the room despite previous arrangement.
THE POOL WAS CLOSED.
We did not have any sleep due to random dogs barking in the garden (I reckon 5 at some point, and yes, I was counting different barking voices in hope that will send me to sleep, lol)
The breakfast was served in a slowest possible manner.

Hello,

We thank you for your visit and your comment, but sincerely we did not believe what you said,
upon your arrival you're nervous and worried befor, our staff was very very freindely and helpful with you, they asked you to give him your booking confirmation or passeport politly to facilitate your registration, but you tryed to reply him with a non-professional and non-educat method,

we have enough baby beds, and we add them as requested, the sound of animals or parking were out of the hotel and far in about 300 métre

The breakfast was served in a slowest possible manner, because our restaurant was full and everyone in restaurante.

in additional, you اhave a problem and not satisfied befor,

thank you,
