“Perfect Moroccan introduction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

The roads are tough so I would get a taxi. The food is excellent! If you do not intend on purchasing something, do not ask for the price. Whatever the price, multiply by 4 and start your bardering! Not my style, but it has to be done. Stay hydrated and cover up.

“Colourful, Clean and Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

We loved strolling through the intricate and colourful Medina. The thousand year old streets were clean and fascinating and you felt the villagers had a pride in their surroundings. This was the one place in our entire trip through the country where I felt this was the genuine Morocco I had expected to find. We had coffee in the Kasbah, and felt safe and comfortable throughout the whole visit. Chefchaouen is definitely a place to visit but one hopes it never becomes a tourist magnet like Fes and Marrakech.

The people were friendly; their produce interesting, fresh and local. We were not approached to buy anything but welcomed into the various shops where, for once, you felt you could take a hassle-free look around.

The donkey's were delivering gas cylinders to the houses while women washed their laundry
in the stream - all very peaceful and 'real' ! Just loved it.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

I absolutely love this place and wish I had of spent more time there and skipped Fez which has no soul. The chefchaouen medina was colorful and full of friendly people who didn't try to push you to buy anything. I felt quite at home just wandering through the lane ways and met very nice people along the way. Visiting this town is a must.

“A breath of fresh air”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Chefchaouen's medina is smaller than others, and much more relaxed. In many other Moroccan tourist cities, the medinas are full of people trying to hustle you, sell you something or offer directions (for a fee, of course), and while this certainly exists in Chefchaouen, it is to a much smaller degree. Also, due to its size it is difficult to get too lost in the Chefchaouen medina.

“Cleaner than Fez medina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2012

Streets were cleaner than Fez medina. Make sure you haggle when buying anything.
