“stunning views, beautifully fresh food + a good nights sleep”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2010

My experience of Dar Gabriel exceeded expectations in cleanliness and comfort, I have spent many an uncomfortable night in Moroccan hotels with thin mattresses and hard pillows. After speaking with Ben, the gentlemen who served us dinner in the restaurant, i found out the hotel is ran by brits, this explained the comfy beds!!
The views from the top terrace of Dar Gabriel were truly magnificent,,,helter-skelter of Chefchouen rooftops and the hills below rolled on and on.
Ben + staff were charming, as was the decor. Food was plentiful, fresh and delicious.
My friends and I wondered about the Medina, purchasing various spices + jewelery then drank mint tea in the Square.
Lovely trip

“Good for Backpackers Only”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2010

Located inside the medina, not a great location but was okay as the medina is not large. The rooms was very small, very basic with limited furnishing and poor bed and 5cm thick pillows that were basically non-existent. Bed was uncomfortable and we had a bad night's sleep. No door on toilet, no shampoo, no bottled water etc only one small bar cheap bar of soap. The service was very poor, upon arrival we were not even acknowledged by Ben for the first 5 minutes, he was content to speak with the driver. Some of the heavy luggage had to be carried up to the room by ourselves. Later when we spoke with him he couldn’t understand English, couldn’t provide a map or understand a question about shampoo which was not provided. Breakfast was very simple served on a dirty table, lots of large bread crumbs etc from previous meals. We were the only guests in the riad! This place is suitable for back packers at best, it was horrible! There was a 2010 Tripadvisor award on display, we were dumb founded how this place could get an award. We were supposed to stay for two nights but found better acommodation nearby after the first night.

“Best smile in the town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2010

This place is nice, clean and well located but there are a few other places with the same.

The main advantage here is the service. Ben is a very friendly, lovely man. He brought us tea whenever we wanted, did our personal laundry at no cost, even brought me medicine.

“Hidden gem in Morroco.............”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2010

Hidden away it was a lucky find, we fell upon this hotel after we arrived weary from travelling from Spain, walking the streets we saw a sign up a blue alleyway. The hotel was beautiful inside with alot of thought gone into the interior design, Our room was very spacious, decorated with authentic rugs and lamps. The ensuite bathroom had hot shower and very nice touches to it such as Morrocon soaps.
We were starving as we had arrived late, manager Ben's wife cooked us a delicious Morrocan 3 course meal, best meal I have had in our travels arround Morroco! We were so pleased to find this Boutique hotel tucked away in the middle of the town that we stayed an extra 3 nights to explore around the area. This is a morrocan hotel with european standards,

“The best yet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2010

We travelled around Morocco for two weeks and Ben was the finest host! The Riad is beautifully and tastefully done up with lots of open spaces and seating areas. We loved the room, the terrace, the yumm Morocain food cooked by Fatima- Ben's wife and the cosy home atmosphere. The Riad is in the heart of the souk and the medina in Chaouen is not very big anyways. Ben is always there with a helping hand- be it carrying heavy luggage to the top floor or letting you use the washing machine and everything he does is done with a big smile right across his face. Couldn't have found a better place to stay! The only glitch was the heating in the room which was just not warm enough.
