“Perfect island getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2009

Well, what can I say? This place is great.
We flew from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terrenganu with Air Asia. There was a shuttle bus that took us to the jetty for the boat trip to the island.
Upon arrival, we had a welcome cocktail while our luggage was taken care of. Because everyone arrives at the same time, the check-in was very busy. However, as our baby daughter was very tired, we asked if we could skip the queue. The staff were discreet and very accommodating - another staff member was drafted in to help us immediately.
The hotel's main building has a lobby bar, reception, a la carte restaurant (didn't eat there). Upstairs is the main buffet restaurant. Good food with good selection that changes every day.
There is a beach front bar and a few meters away is the More More Tea shop that is a mini-supermarket and souvenir shop. Tip: buy your cans of soft drink here: there are much cheaper than the bars.
There's a separate building for recreation activities. You have to get a lifejacket here for the free snorkelling trips. Tip: take the snorkelling trip in the morning to the marine park. Here you can see a kazillion fish of all shapes, colours and sizes. It's on an island and is suitable for all ages and swimming abilities. The afternoon trip is in the open sea.
You can snorkel directly in front of the hotel and see some nice fish. However, if you walk left from the hotel just around the headland, there is fantastic snorkelling. I saw squid, cuttle fish, lots of colourful fish whose name I don't know, sea cucumbers, eels, and more.
The rooms are very spacious and clean. We had a garden view room and it was definitely quieter than the other areas, yet just one row back from the beach.
On the beach and at the swimming pool, there are sun loungers. You can hire free towels and cushions by the pool.
The staff are extremely friendly and will do anything for you.
If you want to relax in an amazing atmosphere, come here!

Our group took the pool side rooms and it is simply marvelous. The room has beds for 4 person. Room and most important of all the bathroom are clean. The food are excellent. they keep on replenishing the food, so there's no worry if you are late. However, maybe they should have some ice cream available for dessert. Though there is a large crowd during meal times, the management has worked out a good system whereby they allocate table for you before entering the dining area. snorkelling trips were wonderful. So is the pool which has a kiddy slide. Only set back is that the hotel does not have enough bread for sale during the snorkelling time to marine park. Definitely the place to be when in Redang.

This is the only real hotel at a reasonable (but not cheap!). The other one is Berjaya Redang resort but it is also opening the Pacifica resort, it seems really beautiful!

Resort very nice and elegant with live music on evening. Nice rooms but we suggest to choose garden view ones, cheaper, quite the same and less noisy then the sea view ones.

Breakfast only until 9.30 a.m. and on holidays it is a bit early...

Best food at food court, where all staff guys eat and where you can find some very good food at a very low price.

We flew to Pulau Redang from Subang on Berjaya Air. The flights were on time, but our first Dash 7 aircraft seemed a little old! Transport from the island's small airport to the hotel was by road and sea, and took about 20 minutes. This is well organised by the hotel. We arrived at Reception and were told that our room would not be ready for a few hours as the occupants who should have checked out at 11.0 a.m. had gone on a snorkelling trip and wouldn't be back until 1.0 p.m. So we had a bit of a wait - but official check in time is 2.0 p.m. and our room was ready soon afterwards. The room 102 was great. It is situated right next to the sea and had the benefit of a large balcony. The A/C was excellent. Nearly all the guests are Chinese on 2/3 night package holidays. The main restaurant caters for these guests and on alternate evenings dinner is a BBQ. There can be a queue at the entrance to the resaurant, but we always seemed to be given a good table overlooking the sea, often visited by a friendly squirrel. The A La Carte restaurant downstairs was almost empty , apart from a few Italian guests, (not apparently used by the package guests) and was good value, although the menu was somewhat unenterprising. Beer and wines are available, but a bottle of (just about drinkable!) house wine cost 90 Ringgits. There is also a Warong Food Court where Malaysian food is served between 5.0 p.m. and 1.0 a.m. It is also possible to eat at various food outlets along the beach, and there are a number of small mini-market shops for snacks, cold drinks and other provisions. All in all we had a great relaxing time. We managed to charter a small motor boat and were taken around the island with stops for snorkelling. Sadly, the coral is all dead, but there are plenty of interesting fish to see. We saw many turtles too.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Wireless Internet Access as available in the Lobby at a cost of 8 Ringgits per hour. It is slow. Our main criticism is the noise from the other adjacent resorts in the late evening. The amplified thumping can continue until midnight.
We will not return to Redang again but are considering a visit to Pulau Perhentian which is north of Redang.

The beach fronting Laguna Resort was so beautiful that we couldn't wait to jump into its crystal clear waters the very moment we arrived. We stayed two nights in the deluxe room facing the pool. The room was well-kept and could accomodate 4 persons. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly - the staff at the restaurant, housekeeping or dive shop and the staff in charge of the snorkelling trips were professional and pleasant. We were so busy snorkelling and diving, two full days were simply not enough. Although it was a big resort that catered to many groups, we could still easily find a spot to ourselves at anytime of the day out at the beach.

Not a hotel for travellers who seek a quiet relaxing holiday. I am sorry that no one mentioned this in the reviews I read before going, but the hotel is tailored for Chinese tourists (a very famous Chinese movie was filmed there) - the food, entertaiment, all follow that. There's about 200-300 people at all times at the buffet, you have to wait in a line before being allowed to enter the restaurant, the food is definitely below average; snorkeling trips are also for about 200 people for each ride (lots of noise!), entertaiment means KTV competitions at the beach, so forget staying at the beach late. Otherwise, the beach really is nice, and the water is crystal clear. Great snorkeling and diving.
