For 240 euros a night a expected a place closer to luxury than regular 2-3 stars hotels. Arriving at the hotel was although we had to wait about an hour before receiving the room.
The first room had a horrible mold smell. I am not allergic to anything but I felt like I could not breath in that room. Our room was changed to a new one where we could not realise if there was mold or not as there was a strong smell of room spray.
I discovered the next morning that the pillows had a very strong mold smell, the wooden door of the mini fridge and the wooden light protection of the balcony door had also mold on it. For European standards, this was a good reason for asking for a discount. After talking to our friends who live there, we were told most of the buildings are like this after 5 year. Still, a huge price for receiving a moldy room.
The room was big, had the basic things in it, but no luxury. It is like an average 3 star hotel from Europe. The great and weird thing on the room ws the huge glass window (an entire wall actually) between the room and bathroom. Still, I had no courage taking a bath there as the tube did not seem to be very clean.
The a la carte restaurant has huge prices and the quality of food is not great. The buffet restaurant was ok but I have seen lots of ants wondering around the food and in the plates. it is natural as the humans went directly to the jungle.
The diving center it is not great as they seem to be bored of tourists.
That was the bad part. The great part was the nature around:
a. wonderful beaches (one savage, the other one, right in front of the resort has umbrellas and beach chairs on it).
b. beautiful coral right near the beach even an inexperienced swimmer can go to it, but I do recommend a life jacket no matter how good you swim).
c. turtles right near the beach
d. few people on the beach even on the busy day of MAy 1st
e. jungle all around, flowers, plants, trees and monkeys
f. clean places within the resort
g. friendly and helpful staff
I recommend staying at the hotel but eating at the terrace right outside the hotel: don't be fouled by the poor looking place. The food is absolutely magnific, much,t thousand times better than at the hotel and very, very cheap ( the most expensive dinner for 6 adults and a child, fresh fish, mussels and calamari, 10 side dishes was 70 euros). But no alcohol there as it is an muslim place and you have to pay in cash (malaysian money). We also used them for going on a day trip and it was 10 times cheaper and great.
On the island hopping you can go to the other beach of the island and buy bear there (where the price is 5 times cheaper than at the hotel).
Remember you must bring Malaysian money there as there is not ATM on the island.
