We enjoyed our stay here tremendously. Travelled with 2 kids; a 2-mth and 2-yr old so we took berjaya air flight from Subang coz the ferry ride would be too long. We chose to stay at ocean front studio and it was the best mony spent ever! To summarize:

Location: you cant go wrong here.

Service: Definitely 5 star. Mr Dennis Chan, Wan Azmi, and kitchen, beach and front desk staff are absolutely amazing. Helped us to arrange babysitter for 5 hrs that allowed my husband and I went snorkelling. Chef cooked freshly caught fish that was outside of menu. Beach staff didnt mind watching over our kids on the beach while we took a quick dip in the ocean.

Activities: Bunch of things to do that kept us occupied for 4D3N. Highly recommend turtle watching, fish feeding, game room, petanque, croquet and the best is doing nothing but enjoying the blissful view.

Room: Outstanding view, spacious, love the jacuzzi and the free wifi. We used the wifi to connect to skype to use it as baby monitor when lil baby was sleeping.

Food: Good breakfast spread. F&B super pricey but good. We had mocktails and milkshakes and thoroughly enjoyed them. We also ate at the restaurant outside for variety at a lot cheaper price.

I just have so much praise for the hotel coz it has made our vacation very special. Yes it is super pricey but it was worth every penny if you want to be pampered. Definitely will be back but will ditch the kids nx time!!

The Taaras Spa & Beach Resort keeps their private beach immaculately clean, boasts newly renovated rooms & is conveniently located near the Redang airport. Customer service is overall excellent - holiday-goers must know what I mean, when I say this makes all the difference. Yati from reception is both attentive & informative & our boatman Ella is a very responsible young chap who takes very good care of both the young & old under his charge (we had a toddler & 2 senior citizens). Every one we met was respectful & accommodating, truly bringing out the best in Malaysian hospitality.

If you disagree with the ludicrous prices tagged on the menu items (the way I did) - grimace not! Toss that menu aside & head out for some local fare (eg. roti canai, mee goreng, nasi goreng) for half the stated price. One restaurant with garish, pink staircase is situated just right outside the resort & then two more establishments just another 10mins down the road.

The turtles? Oh you won't need to go far. They were right there swimming & nonchalantly munching in the bay of the resort itself!

Room tip: Garden suites are a stone's throw away from its gorgeous white beach. Venture out to the local restaurants, have a chat with the gregarious locals.

Location is really wonderful - and that's what matters most!
It's a paradise - a great beach surrounded by the jungle. A bit difficult to reach - therefore limiting mass tourism.

Pros: almost everything is perfect.... Structure is very high level and very beautiful, service is attentive. Beach and sea are absolutely top level (need to go in the right season, probably). Diving center on site is added value. And I could go on...

Just a couple of minor negative points (I've been there before the management change):
- additional activities / food & drinks are quite expensive - but it's easy to get out of the hotel if you're on a tight budget.... which it's probably not the case if you're in Redang! :)
- service at the beach restaurant tends to be quite slow - but who cares as you've plenty of time in Redang!!!

We had a fabulous stay at The Taaras resort. I give this resort 5 stars for its stunning location, the beach is one of the best we have ever seen/visited (and we have stayed at fiji/vanuatu/Nth Qld/Mexico before), the water is heaven! warm and pure clean soft white sand, no shells or seaweed!

We took a direct 1hr flight from singapore, the airport transfer was easy. We stayed in a hill deluxe room, it was nice/new and renovated, but certainly nothing flashy/over the top, I guess for nearly $400p/night (AUD) i expected something a little more. we did have a partial ocean view. room was cleaned very well each day & had turndown service.

there were a few things that made me question if it really lives up to the standards of a 5 star resort, mostly the service. there appeared to be many staff 'standing around', there were a few being trained at reception which is fair enough but at the boat harbour I counted 10 sitting there doing not alot (including one smoking in uniform) and often we saw staff at the resort who looked like they didn't have alot to do. there was no info folder in the room meaning we had no idea when the gym open/closed, what time breakfast/dinner restarants were open, if there was internet (we found out there is free wifi in the lobby/main building), no info on trips/tours in the room either.

we did 2 snorkelling trips (approx $50p/p) one was the 3 stop snorkelling however we really should have only done the 1 stop to the marine park as it was fantastic snorkelling, lots of tropical fish/coral to see. the food and drink is expensive/typical of an island resort were you cant buy it elsewhere.. coronas were $15(AUD) and cocktails $20, set menu restaurant was $60p/p, buffet $65. there was no happy hour which was dissapointing, a great bar at the beach but no one was there as it was so expensive. there is a little restaurant just outside the resort gate, we went there for dinner a few nights, $15 for 2 people for a huge amount of food. It is vvery basic, plastic chairs etc but if you are ok with the no frills it is an opportunity to save some money. you can buy basic supplies there also including soft drink, snacks and water.

the gym has one of the most amazing views! we had great weather it only rained a few times with huge downpours then it cleared up. overall a great resort, we would visit again because of the stunning location, i think the service & a few of those nice little 5 star touches are needed to step up a few levels to justify it being 5star

Room tip: hill deluxe rooms were nice, but not guaranteed an ocean view. you spend most time at the beach so i would save your money, go for a garden room and spend more on food/drinks

I have been frequenting the berjaya redang and now the Taaras for the last couple of years, but itsseems to besliding down in terms of quality. I was last there in September and what an incredible stay it was. As a family we found everyone to be enthusiastic and what was een better is that the GM would come and speak to us on her walks. All the staff were excellent and I saw a big change in the way things were done as compared to the previous years. I am sure this was due to the management change.
During this visit there was no one who came and chatted with us and this was so disappointing. Previously, the F&B manager- Patrick, would make sure that all guests were spoken to and nothing was impossible- True professionalism.
Now I hear that all have left The Taaras, which is disheartening. We really noticed a big change the last time but this time around as well is teh change but not for the better. We as a family see it as a complete down fall.
On the other hand, the beach and the location is still beautiful and the new block have a modern look.
The resort needs to have a few more eating venues and the prices are a bit too high for Malaysia. The resort does not match other luxury resorts.
Not sure if we would now come back. Sorry !!!
