#1 Go to bubbles if you want to stay somewhere beautiful, with friendly people, and in a place where they actually care about trying to sustain this piece of paradise unlike much of the rest of the perhentian islands.
We stayed at bubbles for 8 nights and did not want to leave. We are a family with 2 children (5 and 3) and we all had such a wonderful time.
Ronnie, Peisee, Libby and all the other staff do such a fantastic job at creating the most friendly atmosphere at Bubbles whether you are a family, couple or whoever. It's a small place but has everything you could want.
The dive shop guys were all great, friendly, knowledgeable, welcoming and it's great value to dive. Although the diving is what a lot of people come for, if you are not diving then you'd never feel like the diving impinged in any way on what you wanted to do.
Similarly the turtle conservation project is a really big part of bubbles but if you chose not to be interested in it, then you can just do whatever you want with no worries. You really should look into it though as we had the amazing opportunity to see both a female green turtle lay her eggs one night and another night to see the release of 23 baby turtles into the sea. Amy and Gareth and their volunteers taught us a lot about turtles and their efforts are really fantastic given the extremely steep uphill battle they have to help Malaysia's turtles.
Of course the beach is just perfect and there are excellent rocks to scramble over at either end and a stream leading into the sea to play in especially for the youngest visitors.
Then there is the jungle, with monkeys, lemurs, monitor lizards and the like all around - wow.
And I've not even mentioned the fish yet. Such a plethora of shapes and colours, truly breathtaking. Not to forget the sharks, turtles and stingrays too. Our 5 year old still can't believe he snorkeled with sharks (black tip reef sharks).
And again even our 3 year old was able to see colourful fish by paddling out ankle deep in the water.
The coral reef begins just a few metres off shore. It is not the best reef you will ever see but go out a bit further or to other sites around the island and the colours improve. That said, it's still pretty special and provides for the fish.
The accommodation is not the traditional wooden bungalows along the beach but is instead recently built concrete units grouped together about 50 yards back from the beach. They are pleasant looking, have air con and fan, hot water shower, lots of plug sockets, plenty of water, very clean, fresh linen and towels. Amazing really given where you are. The accommodation is back off the beach so the turtles have the beach to nest on in the evenings and the tree line is left undisturbed to protect the beach itself. Basically it's accommodation to sustain the land rather than possibly more picturesque but short termist huts on the beach.
I could go on and on here about Bubbles but I don't suppose anyone has even read this far!
I came to the Perhentians in 1995 and had been talking about it ever since. Bubbles allowed me to see and experience this wonderful part of the world as I remembered it, not bad given almost 20 years of development. We went to the little island for 2 hours and were horrified at the way it has been ruined. Thank goodness for Bubbles!
Plus, last point, Bubbles is on the furthest round beach on the island and has the whole bay to itself so nobody but the people staying there come by. This keeps it quiet, safe and friendly.
Thanks everyone at Bubbles. We really hope to be back sometime soon.

I think room 6 might have had the best view. You might not want to have the front rooms as there was...

Thank you very much for staying with us. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, and we wish to continue our effort towards the turtles and the environment. Hope that when your kids come back one day and everything still the way they remembered it! :)
