Maybe I'm a cheapskate. The accommodation at Bubbles is nice, clean rooms, very quiet. The beach is set apart from all the others in Perhentian so you don't see many boats coming and going. The turtle conservation project is cool for someone like me who isn't crazy about turtles. But I couldn't swallow the food prices. We paid double for every meal, compared to places like Mama's and Watercolours. For my wife and I, we paid about RM50 per meal and that was ordering simple dishes like fried rice, fried noodles. The food is fine, nothing fancy, tastes decent. Since Bubbles is so isolated, we had no choice for dining so we were stuck with the prices set by the resort. The "package" means buffet meals, but those costs are very high, more than paying a la carte. Travel in Malaysia should mean dirt cheap food, so we were disappointed. I will say the staff is among the most friendly and thoughtful I've seen in Malaysia. They loved our little 10-month old and were very aware of our needs. One night, he was fussing so my wife took him to the room while I ate dinner. She came back later to finish her dinner. The staff insisted on taking the baby next time so we could eat together. The snorkeling on the beach is average compared to elsewhere on the island. No beach chairs, but lots of hammocks in the shade. Overall, the lodging is not nice enough to warrant the high prices, both for the rooms and the food. The resort is very focused on the turtle project and I felt like I paid extra to help fund it. I'm fine with that, but next time I will get four nights somewhere else for what it cost me for two at Bubbles.
