Description: This excellent restaurant is just round the corner from the Awana Kijal Beach Resort. Serving delicious food it is popular with families and workers alike. Also serves beer. We particularly enjoyed the venison with ginger and spring onions and the chicken with marmite sauce.

“Great Food & Very Friendly Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

My husband and I eat here regularly as we live in an apartment just 2 minutes away.

By European standards, the restaurant is basic in terms of decor and ambience, but the food is delicious and the service is very good.

It sits in a small quadrangle of shops and restaurants including a few other Chinese restaurants, a few Malaysian and even a KFC! But for us the Pertama is the best (although we haven't eaten in the KFC). It's a family run business and they are all very friendly, and will offer suggestions on food choices etc.

The restaurant is open for lunch between 11am and 2 pm, and then opens again at 5pm until usually around 10pm.

Some of our favourite dishes are: Sizzling beef, Buttered Prawns, Salt & Pepper Squid, chicken & cashew nuts, chicken noodle soup, sizzling chicken, and for veggies they have: mixed vegetables, bak choy, kankong (I think that's what it's called), broccoli with garlic and lots more. They also do really nice fresh juices: apple, coconut, orange, carrot. You can also get a beer here, although no wine :(

Prices are really good. We had lunch here today and had 2 large bowls of chicken noodle soup, an omelette, 2 large freshly squeezed orange juice and a portion of mixed vegetables to take away, and the whole thing cost just over 40RM (£8). A beer works out around £3 I think, which is quite expensive but there is a high tax duty on alcohol here.

All in all this is a great restaurant, serving great food, at great prices. Don't miss it if you're in the area.

Should ask them about the seasonal food or else the size of the seafood is rather small

“Nice dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

The seafood is fresh, typical for this area. Price is slightly cheaper, compared to Tong Juan. However, we arrived on a Friday, most of the shops in Chukai, Kemaman, including Tong Juan wasn't open on Friday. Take note that the state of Terengganu rest on Friday and Saturday.

There are a few waitress, all serve us with a pleasant smile. Makes us feel welcome.

The only thing I would like to comment is that their food is quite oily, wondering whether the restaurant has overstock with cooking oil, or the cook/chef has worked at Esquire Kitchen before.

Anyone who wants to dine here, might wish to ask the cook to be slightly stingy on the oil.
