This was one of the highlights of our trip to Malayisa. The boat trip on the way out is excellent- we had gorgeous weather. Stopped for a very nice lunch at a rather run-down nearby island and then arrived on 'Turtle Island' in the afternoon. We spent a beautiful afternoon lying on the beach and snorkling. In the evening we had the dinner with everybody else (after a video about turtles) and although the food was not great we had amazing fun with others on the island sitting out drinking beer till the wee hours. By the way, if you don't like beer (like me) you may want to bring along your own alchohol. About 10pm one of the guides shouted 'turtle time' and we all ran in the dark down the beach to see a mother turtle laying her eggs. It was cool, but you feel like a real tourist!!! Some tourists went to bed early as the baby turtles did not hatch until midnight. A group of about 10 of us stayed up and saw the babies hatching and being released to the see- beautiful sight. Remember you cannot use the flash on your camera.
The following morning we were getting our boat back around 6:30am and I decided to walk by the beach in case there was a turtle laying her eggs. Sure enough there was, and so we got amazing photos of her when there was nobody else around and the sun was up. We were lucky enough to get photos of her making her way back down to the sea and swimming away. This made our holiday as we had an experience that most of the other tourists on the island missed.
