“intresting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

the best way to get here in by rent a car. i enjoyed the nature of sandakan along the way to labuk bay...one more attraction along the way is sepilok orang utan sanctuary. just plan the day to make it worth visit. GPS might help for some one not familiar with this area and to whom that not really understand map. this is the best place to get closer to proboscis monkey, one of the most rare species to see.

“Overall great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Well all turned out ok in the end! Before our visit here I'd read that it was quite remote and difficult to get to/there isn't the ability to grab a taxi when you want to leave. Poorly advertised but the "sanctuary" now runs a shuttle from Sandakan to Labuk Bay via Sepilok. It's 15RM each way and includes the ride from platform A to B + a stop at a cafe at the resort for lunch. We'd made our own way there but the driver asked us how we were getting around and back and so we just got to hop on the mini bus for the return journey.

Agree it's not a sanctuary but a couple of feeding platforms in the middle of a palm plantation (with a lovely video explaining why the plantation owners set the place up... I'll let you decide on that one!). It is however a great way to see these fascinating unique creatures close up and their bizarre and human like behaviours.

“Cute monkeys”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We were a bit worried as this was quite expensive, by Sabah standards, but this was a super fun experience as the monkeys came right into the viewing platform with us. The kids really enjoyed watching them play around our feet. Also saw 2 amazing hornbill's. Great fun.

“This is NOT a sanctuary”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

I was very disappointed. This is NOT a sanctuary. It is a hotel built on a palm oil tree plantation. The owner has built feeding platforms to attract the monkeys, and charges guests and visitors $20 to see them.

“Enjoyed this more than the Orangutan Sanctuary!””
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We visited on 18th October 2012. Our guide took us in early - well before the 2.30 feeding at platform B, and even started to call the Monkeys. We were treated to 45 minutes of watching them play in the trees, run about on the platform and generally make lots of noise. It was brilliant and much better than Sepilok. This is definately a 'Must Do' if you are in Sandakan or even a trip from Kota Kinabalu.
