“Heaven on earth!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2009

Do not hesitate to stay at Kapalai. Being here was how I imagine heaven to be like. It was wonderful and far and beyond our expectations. The resort is beautiful and well maintained and very luxurious. The bungalows are comfortable, romantic, well decorated and private. There is not much by way of entertainment so definitely recommended for rest and relaxation. The water is shallow and clear. Water sport facilities are excellent. The dining room is well maintained and catered. Food is not exactly gourmet but is well cooked, fresh and tasty with plenty of variety. The staff were wonderful and hardly let us lift a finger. It would be perfect for a destination wedding or honeymoon. Cannot wait to return to Kapalai!

A place to go for divers without any small child because no beach...
The rooms with balcony are very spacious, the restaurant good, the dive center good also.
The best place and view in the area.
Price is all included, transfers, meals, drinks, 3 dives / day outside resort but can dive alone in front of the resort (18m and very nice place) as many time as you want (tank included) 4 days / 3 nights for malaysian residents 2 adults divers + 1 child (8) 5.000 Rm (1.000 Euros)
Select a flight arriving in the morning, you will arrive at mid day in the resort and be able to dive in the afternoon (Air Asia from Kuala). To go back select a flight going out after 5 pm to be able to snorkle all the morning around the resort to see one more time a turtle...( Air Asia to Kuala through Kota Kinabalu)
My best dive place at the moment in Malaysia..

My husband and I spent five nights at Kapalai on our honeymoon in June. We're both divers so fancied diving one of the best dive spots in the world and we weren't disappointed!
Kapalai is paradise. Quiet, relaxing and utterly beautiful, we loved every second we spent there.
The water bungalows were far beyond expectation and sleeping with the doors flung open and the lap of water underneath was so romantic. Beautifully furnished with very plush bathrooms and huge balconies you feel completely alone.
Diving was the best we've every experienced. We were lucky to be offered the chance to go to Sipadan practically every day and saw everything from 32 turtles in one dive! To loads of reef sharks and fabulous coral - it totally blew us away! The dive crew were also brilliant and I'd recommend Alvin as the most attentive dive master, slow and calm.
I spent most afternoons relaxing on the empty artificial island in the blistering sunshine.
The only downside is the food, it was a bit repetitive and not always very hot. They also only serve dinner between seven and eight which was a bit early for us. Although juice, coffee, tea and water is provided free of charge all day, other drinks were very expensive - 140 ringets for wine and 8 ringets for beer.
Overall though this is an amazing place to visit, definitely worth the high price tag, and if you're a diver then it's not to be missed. We can't wait to go back.

Visited this resort with 5 friends from our scuba divng club in Hong Kong for 7 days in July 2009, great location, great diving, especially Sipadan with the Barracuda, Sharks and Turtles. Dive center staff were excellent, the quality of dive master (Roland) and attention to detail of the boat staff in looking after all our requirements from preparing gear to cleaning after the dives made the trip just that much better. Managed to get in 22 dives across a combination of boat, house reef and night dives with the worst rating being a 6 when we dived Siamal on the only windy and overcast day of the trip.

We have just returned from our Borneo holiday! It was a 'perfect' holiday, 'perfectly' capped off by our 3night/4day stay at Kapalai! I did not want to leave..... it was truely a magical time!
As we were brand new PADI divers, and never having completed a leisure dive, we were slightly nervous about diving at Kapalai. However, words can not express how incredible supportive the dive crew were at the resort.
At our first orientation dive at Kapalai, the crew picked up on my nervousness very quickly, and happily assigned a dive master to stay with me for my first 3 dives. On the remaining dives there was a strong sense that the dive guide was keeping a 'special eye' on us! This kind of care was GREATLY appreciated! The diving and snorkelling was AMAZING!!! The house reef also has so many beautiful things to discover. It was truely diving 'made easy', with the dive crew organising and taking care of your equipment! (Thanks to Lee - he was a GEM!!!)
We found the staff at the resort beautifully friendly and accomodating. We requested to be moved further away from the dive centre after our first night (slightly noisy for a light sleeper!). This was no problem at all!
Our rooms were stunning! However, how could they not be with stunning sea views from every angle! (even the bath tub!) Depite the large amount of guests that file through this place, the resort had such a 'personal' and 'friendly' feel!
I must admit.... I shed a small tear as our boat left the resort!
I will recommend this place to everyone!

We stayed at Sipadan-Kapalai 3,5 days to dive. It was a nice stay. You can dive up to 4 times a day and you have the opportinity to go to Sipadan which is the best dive spot we went ever. The rooms are clean and nice. The food is good eventhough it is a buffet.
However, if you do not dive you can get bored quickly and it is possible that the service do not match your expectation for this price.
