My husband and I stayed 4 nights at the Berjaya Tioman Resort and had a terrible experience! We have spent our holidays at various beach resorts in South-east Asia and this was our worst holiday so far. The superior room we were given was nothing like the photos on their website; it was old and the toilet was no different from a backpacker hostel’s. By our third day at the resort, we had experienced enough of the resort’s bad customer service:
1. On the second day, when we returned to our room our used towels were taken but no replacement was given. We were left with no towels!
2. Reception issued “lunch/ dinner” vouchers to us at check-in which we used for lunch, and when we went back for dinner, the restaurant told us that the vouchers were issued to us by mistake and we were asked to pay for our lunch.
3. Our call for room service was cut off abruptly. After waiting for 15 minutes, we walked to the restaurant instead. The restaurant then told us our order was about to be sent to us, so we asked to have it at the restaurant. When the bill came, they charged us the room service price.
We wanted to cancel the fourth night’s stay and fly home a day earlier, but were told that the flight back to Singapore was full. We felt trapped in the resort as the staff are not helpful at all. They did not bother about any service recovery. The review presented by the resort on its website is highly inaccurate and misleading. We are definitely not going back to Berjaya Tioman Resort.
