“Old timer but still worth to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

the resort was once a great place to stay.it still ok for me, but the amenities are getting older.
Food is great, and lot of space at the restaurant, it doesn't cramp during public holiday.
Basic room, with good air-cond and bed.by the way, who need to luxury room.whereby most of the time spending outside the room.

The other end if the beach is much nicer. There is actually a beatiful beach and not just rocks for a start!

Huts are basic and pretty grotty and there is zero atmosphere here. The staff are really unhelpful and make it clear you are not really welcome like its a real hassle having guests at their place...wifi costs rm10 a day and you have to sit outside reception to get a really slow connection.. So no skype calls :( no powerpoints of course!

I checked out the next day and went to azaids place right on the sandy beach .... Much much better so just do yourself a favour and turn RIGHT when you get off the ferry!!!

We are long term travelers with basic needs - general level of cleanliness and enough space for our (minimal) stuff. The room met our needs, but it had some rough spots.

The room was simple and small with AC and a comfortable bed. The bathroom had an odd drainage hole, which was covered with a rock (to not let small animals in?). The shower sprayed a little crazy (all over toilet). There were various holes and cracks, but we didn't have bug problem. The small front porch had a nice view of the ocean. It was obscured by two big bungalows out on the water, but there weren't a lot of better views to be had on this beach.

The front desk was quite confusing. We went several times (before getting a room) asking availability and prices, and the answers were more often than not different. They definitely take reservations and it seems like they take reservations for specific rooms. They were very specific about reservations and how we could have one room for two nights but a different room for a third night. I understand it was nice for people coming on scheduled vacations, but it was troublesome to go-with-the-flow travelers.

I first stayed at Salang Pusaka and got kicked out after the first two days because someone else had reserved. Then I moved over to the Salang Indah and was pleasantly surprised.
Mind you, these ratings are all relative - comparing the two resorts.
Salang Indah had basic rooms just like Pusaka but I found it a little bit cleaner and more professional. I got a single bed small room. AirCon was nice and strong. The bathroom (like the others) was very basic, looked quite used up, but sanitary. The showerhead had no holder, it was just hanging off the wall by a string. But oh well, it worked. There was hot water (which the other place did not have). The bed was surprisingly comfy and the pillow was a nice firm foam type, almost like memory foam. The sheets were also nice and clean.

One peeve was that to rent towels you needed to put down a 10MYR deposit (for a silly towel!)

Overall, I would recommend it, when comparing to the other resort I stayed at.
but it would compare to a 1-star hotel in north america.
Depends on your standards, i guess.

My third time back in Salang and I stayed at Indah. As most places in Salang and Tioman in general, they are very basic rooms, old with little or zero amenities. Indah is the biggest "resort" (I put that in quotes because it's a joke to call any place in Salang a resort) to stay at in Salang, offering somewhere around 40 rooms.

As much as I like Salang and this island I have to say after traveling in Asia for 15 months it's about the worst place for accommodation I've experienced. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for high profile places but just about everywhere else I've stayed for about 5-12 dollars US you can get a pretty amazing room.

At Indah the staff either hates you or they hate their life so much that they project that hatred on you. When I first walked in the woman at the reception wouldn't even look up from her video game she was playing on her computer to speak to me. Expect ZERO hospitality.

The room is basically an old wood box probably constructed twenty years ago. Walls are bare ply wood, super thin and there are holes in the floors and walls. There are no screens on the windows and no mosquito nets so have fun trying to stay cool in a fan room without being swarmed by blood suckers. Also there are slatted vents in the bathroom and main room area that you can not close and again have no screens so mosquitoes fill the room.

The bathroom is a joke, no sink, the toilet is in desperate need of replacing and the floor is dirty old tile. The drain is not covered and the floor is cracked enough to see the ground below. Lights are florescent tubes making it feel like you are staying in a prison cell. It's really unbelievable to me after staying in so many gorgeous places throughout Asia, including mainland Malaysia, Langkawi and Borneo that there is such lack of care at these places on Tioman. There is so much potential if the people just cared about their customers.

The only plus to this dump is that you can get a fan room for 50 MYR. That's still way too expensive considering how crappy the place is but for the island it's a good deal.

Room Tip: they are all bad so take your pick :)

I had fun at the island but it became my nightmare after trip. In the first place i thought it was just a mosquito bites and it end up terribly swollen burning bites on my both legs and lil bit on my body. Thank god its not my face! I went to see doctor twice and is not helping from stopping the itch and was suffering for almost 6 weeks.
