Me and another 4 friends decided to stay in salang because the reviews said it has the nicest beach in tioman. however the beach isn't that wide but enough for swimming and snorkeling.

we stayed at two deluxe rooms. the one i got was rather lousy and smelly. the mattress was awful, it was a very old mattress with springs in it. i had terrible back pain after staying for two nights there maybe due to my prolapsed disc problem i suffered months ago. if you happen to get this kind of bed, do complaint and get it replaced. however, my friends' room was much better. the beds were all in a good condition. nothing much to complaint though. i guess it was just me and my roommate being the unlucky ones :)

there were water heater, dressing table, bed, fridge and sofa table.

the staff was a little helpful though. there were mosquitoes at night thus we couldn't sleep. i asked for a mosquito repellent and he gave it eventhough not instantly.

there was one time where there was no water when i wanted to take a shower. i called the staff and he said the water piping was under maintenance. however i had to wait only around 10 mins.

we had bbq at the restaurant. it was quite good. i believe the restaurant is the most happening place at night, with good music, and big screen to watch tv and you may get the chance to see the cook dancing happily with his ladle in his hand.

this resort isn't facing the beach but it's only a few walks away.

my advice is try to find any other resort with better condition if you want a comfortable place. salang pusaka isn't the one for you. but if you're that type who isn't that fussy or just finding a place to sleep, this can be a choice for you.

tioman island is indeed a very good place to go for snorkeling. remember to negotiate before you take any snorkeling trip. malaysians are friendly. :)

Room Tip: Avoid Room 44.

Title says it all. The place is filthy and it stinks and the rooms are in horrible repair. There is zero service from the staff - I wanted to take a shower, and I had to wake them up from their siesta to get the tissue-thin rags that they consider towels, and then the water didn't even work on the 2nd day. I paid 140RM / night for a bungalow with AC, which is no cheaper than any other place and a LOT lower quality. I know it may sound like I'm making this worse than it is, but I'm not. Tioman Island is wonderful, but the Salang Pusaka resort is a dump. Stay somewhere else.

Salang Pusaka was just as we imagined it.
Don't be put off by the entrance (which could deffinitely be done up)
The service was extremely friendly with the staff more than happy to sit and chat with you when they wern't too busy. Service at the resurant was really fast and didn't take long for the food to come out.
The SEAFOOD BBQ was definitely the best on the beach, with more choice and better atmosphere than any of the others. Also have a movie on the projector each night!
If there were any problems, such as lack of toilet paper (malaysians don't use toilet paper, just a hose) they are more than happy to help.
We did the Deluxe 3 night package and our room was really big. The aircon was a beauty and was charging the whole time. (great to have a cool place to go being from NZ)
The location was good only 100m from the beach, which was good as the beachg has a few sandflies and right behind the lagoon with heaps of massive monitor lizards. (feeding them is a must, can buy food from the resort)
The best part was the coral island trip to the classic white beach and snorkling. Though there were about 10 other boats doing the same trip.
THe worst thing was getting eaten by sandflies in the evening while having a beer or 2 at salang sayang resturant.

I went diving with B&J and they recommended this. It was worth it. I paid around MYR 110 per night for an AC room with hot shower. The room was spartan with a bed, a fridge and a dressing table. Nothing else, but then for a place like Tioman you want a room where you can sleep peacefully for the night. There's too many things to do and you really should not be in your room in the day :)

Service was quick. Loo was clean. Shower worked well. No complaints at all. They have an attached restaurant which has one of the best grills in the evening at Salang Bay.

Sleep was very peaceful.

Would stay again if I visit Tioman. I think it was good value overall.

Looking at the reviews as a whole, it was pretty scary as it looks like a risk to try out a place that has a mixture of good and bad comments. However, we decided to go on as most of the negative reviews were backdated.

We took the 3 days 2 nights package at the price of RM400 per person. The room was suppose to be a super deluxe consisting of a double bed and one single but due to unforeseen circumstances, we were upgraded to a bungalow of one king size bed, great news for the two of us. The package included a welcome drink, 1 dinner, 2 breakfast , 1 packed lunch, 1 BBQ dinner, return ferry tickets to the jetty and a boat trip to the Coral Island (island hopping). It is a pretty good deal if your main objective is to relax and enjoy the ocean. Nevertheless, you can always opt for just the room and arrange activities over there itself if you're adventurous. There are plenty of activities to choose from, at the chalet or independent tour operators outside.

At our arrival, we were a little lost because there were not much directions to the resort. Yet, it is only very nearby, just right behind the complex by the shore. The sea is not in view from your chalets but the wide stretch of shore is only a few minutes walk away. This resort has a more casual way of service delivery. The front office staff were friendly and helpful though at times may look a little intimidating.

The walkways between chalets can be pitch black but there are some street lighting at some areas. The room was very spacious though not very bright, reading light is available inside the room. Air-conditioner was working like a champion, we had to turn up the temperature as it was getting too cold, haha.. We had a wide bathroom with even a bathtub. The ceiling was leaking when it rained but it's not a big problem. The whole resort is pretty clean. The mini fridge was a plus point as you can store drinks, especially alcoholic beverages to consume at your convenience. There is no television, but then again who stays in the room for long?

The meals provided were not bad, though they are the common asian or western dishes. Portions were considerably larger, probably to accommodate the appetite of westerners. They also play movies at night on a projector screen but the poor subtitling can be very distracting. However, if you'd like to try something else, there are several restaurants by the shore. The only down thing about Salang is that there are no duty free shops here. They are mostly in Tekek, another part of the island, easily reachable by ferry. Rent the fins for swimming, they will do half the job for you. Just remember to paddle slowly and calmly. The sea is crystal clear, really beautiful. The shallow area stretches out far so children have much space to swim and snorkel safely here.

Unfortunately, our timing wasn't so good so the weather wasn't very kind on us. Some activities couldn't be carried out due to weather restrictions. Tip is to check the forecasts for favourable weather then make reservations. Overall, we had a good time snorkeling and drinking! If only we had more time to enjoy and dive, the experience would be complete.

These are some things you should consider bringing:
Umbrella - rain may fall although seldom, and it's awesome against the brilliant sun
Wine opener & stopper - will be handy if you enjoy drinking, and plenty of it
Entertainment - Ipod or vcd/dvd player if you like, internet is limited and pretty expensive
Hair oil - put on before before entering the ocean to protect your hair
Hair rubber band - to tie up hair when swimming so it doesn't get it your way

Just a friendly reminder to help conserve mother nature, please apply just enough sunscreen at least 45 minutes before you enter the water. Not only will it protect your skin better, the sunscreen won't leech out and kill the corals through bleaching. 80% of reefs in Southeast Asia is already at the threat of being endangered. Let's help change this :)

Lastly, just sit back and enjoy your trip!

I stayed 2 nights in a "standard room" with air conditioning for RM110 a night. The room was very basic but clean and comfortable. The light in the room wasn't very bright, so at night the room was a bit dark. The air conditioning worked well and there was also a mini fridge in the room too.
I didn't eat at the resort's restaurant but ate at a few of the local places which were fine.
I'm sure you can stay at fancier places but if you're ok with basic, then this resort is good.
