We stayed at the Libertalia for 5 nights. The manager was great, helpful and welcoming. The bungalows were lovely, the lounge/dining area beautiful and the view pretty. Just for those (like me) that likes to know I'm in the nicest place on an island - I was a little disappointed when I showed up and discovered there was a road right behind this place, making it a little noisy in the bungalows - so I explored and discovered that the road runs behind every hotel on the west side and makes them all a little noisy. We rode our bikes around the island and only if you go on the east side (more remote) or up past the main town, do the hotels get off the road. In the balance of things, the location of this hotel (walkable distance to town, near other hotels/restaurants) and the dock that takes you out to beautiful swimming water (all hotels are located on a beach with water that gets very shallow at low tide) makes it near the best on the island. AND, the managers husband is involved in the local precious stone business, working with local people and using all local products, and will design beautiful jewelry on request. I got an amazing green sapphire ring - stunning! I would recommend this place over all others on Isle Sainte-Marie (except maybe the princess Bora which was closed while we were there, so I can't comment) but if you want quiet I recommend Isle aux Nattes.
