“Bye Bye Birdies”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Those iconic photos of the lake turned pink, blushing with flamingos? Gone.
Lake Nakuru was the first stop on my African safari adventure. Lots of zebras, impalas, water buffalo. Even saw some giraffe and bot white and black rhinos... very neat. Unfortunately, the lake is not what it used to be as the flamingo population is dwindling and there remains just a fraction of what there used to be. The lake is still worth a visit if you're in the area and want to see African wildlife. Spotting big cats here will take patience as I was there for a couple of hours (at least) and didn't see even one!

“Great game and bird viewing although only 7 flamingoes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Lush environment with varied habitats and wide variety of game and birds.
Sadly on our visit the famous flamingo were absent apart from a few stragglers. Also many roads were closed or impassable due to recent rains, which meant we could only see the lake from one view-site, not drive around it.
A real treat to see both black and white rhino - the latter a large herd of 11. With the huge numbers of rhino being slaughtered in Africa by poachers, every sighting is very special. Also good sightings of lion, antelope and cape buffalo.
Toilets shocking - really only to be used in desperation! Try to use those at curio shops before the gates.

“Poor condition.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

The lake is overflowing with water hence the Flamingos has flown away. This is very sad..... However we sitll were able to do quite a good wild life sighting. We saw a lino on a tree top which is very rare sight....

“Great game viewing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

This is a great place for game viewing. The only downside was the absence of flamingos from the lake. Heavy rains had changed the water quality and they had migrated elsewhere.

“must see place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

This was my favorite place to visit in Kenya. The wildlife are abundant and varied, the lake beautiful, and the flora green and lush. A relief after days in the dusty and dry Masai Mara and Amboseli reserves.
