“Exceeded expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Two male friends and I did a two day/two night tour of Wadi Rum with Rumstars. We had been discouraged by tales of overcrowding, tourists getting drunk, lack of an authentic experience etc by Bedouin people we had met in Petra, but our experience was very tasteful and exceeded expectations. I had expected a cursory 'camel tour' of a couple of hours but we spent the whole of the first day riding our camels between different sites. I had also expected the campsite to be more basic than it turned out to be - there were shower and loo blocks and numerous small private tents for the guests, with beds! I suppose this disappointed me a little, as I had thought that everyone would bed down together in the main tent. But we were encouraged to take our mattresses and bedding out onto the sand and sleep under the stars. It was perfectly quiet and the air really fresh, the blankets warm (though mine smelt of camel). We woke up early from the light and the flies buzzing around our heads, but breakfast was at 7am anyway. Apparently they bring water from the village for showers, so it's appreciated if you check that it's ok to shower and do so using as little water as possible! The meals were all excellent - there was a huge amount of food and it was delicious. Our guide on the first day was 14 year old Yusef, who was incredibly skilled with the camels but seemed very bored with his job (poor thing). He enjoyed throwing stones off cliffs during our lunchtime rest and it was good to see him smiling! I had expected there to be more people in the desert but we were alone at the camp on the first night. Even being in the 4WD was a quiet experience - our guide drove slowly and sensibly (for the most part!). I felt like we saw all the main sites in the desert and loads of beautiful scenery. We rested in the shade for a couple of hours at midday, so the sun wasn't unbearable. We also had the chance to walk through some gorges, in the morning before it got too hot. The staff were good-looking, respectful, courteous and helpful and I'd highly recommend it!

First of all, a warm welcoming from the team. All kind, polite, open minded and helpful. My friend and I spent two days in the desert with camels. The night in the camp by an impressive cliff in this incredible set was amazing. It is wonderfully equiped and the tents are super comfortable.
I highly recommend a visit with Rum Star Camp to anyone visiting Jordan. We ended a long trip in Israël and Jordan in Wadi Rum, it was by far the most emotional experience!
I shall thank the whole team for their great sense of hospitality!
Hope to come back soon!
Louis

I and my wife stayed at Rum Stars camp and did a full day 4X4 vehicle private tour with them on Nov. 03, 2012. I researched extensively all possible option and got quotes from several different companies, but Rum Stars offered the best price from all camps situated inside the protected area. The owner of the company Ahmed Ogla Al Zalabeyh replied instantly to all my emails and we decided to book with them.

We can not imagine how better a full day and an overnight at a bedouin camp in Wadi Rum can be. The location of the camp is spectacular - under a high cliff in the middle of the protected area, the camp itself is very nice - original bedouin tents (not the white ones), not too big, great atmosphere with likely-minded fellow travelers, great traditionally cooked (buried in a hole in the ground) bedouin dinner. The tents were equipped with a double size real bed with linen and blankets. We did not feel cold at night at all.

All our requests were met - we demanded a covered 4X4 vehicle (not a pick-up). We had a great guide named Ead (a very young bedouin). The view from the camp is breathtaking, we would recommend getting up very early in the morning and taking photos of the desert and the rocks at sunrise light. We would highly recommend Rum Stars camp and tours for your visit to Wadi Rum. Thanks Ahmed and Ead and sorry for the late review!

Room Tip: Choose a tent on the first row, so you can have unobstructed view towards the desert.

Stayed at the rum stars camp in december 2012. There were not many guests but the guide, the cook and the rest of the crew were wonderful and the hospitality was great. The food especially the zarb was fantastic. Great way to relax under the tents with the fire in winter. The Jabal al Hash trek was truly amazing.

What can I say about Wadi Rum, it was definitely a magical trip! From Camel Trekking, to staying under the brightly glistening skies to the Bedouin experience. We arrive to meet Saleh at the Visitors center and was graciously offered some Bedouin Tea. ( HOW I MISS THIS TEA!)After a bit we were off with a guide and our Camels. I don't remember the Guides name and that is how the trekking kind of continued on for. He barely knew English and conversation was far to none. But a very friendly guy for sure. He was able to tell us just land marks but other than that my husband and I just took in wadi rums magnificent views in silence which actually was much needed. We took a lunch break where we hiked to a cliff and had the most awesome view while our guide napped we took pictures, roamed around and explored. We reached the camp and it was pleasant. I am not sure why people complained about the beds, showers etc... its camping... its not suppose to be a 5 star hotel! In any case we had a pleasant time, maybe not the full authentic Bedouin stay since I think it was low season and much of the guides were still on EID holiday mode. But it was perfect for us.

If you're looking for a Wadi Rum experience then these guys are amazing. We went with them as they were voted the best by lonely planet and they did not disappoint. Our tour guide Salem was a champion, soldiering on even without food or water during Ramadan.

The food is great, especially dinner! The camp site is clean and the beds large. Sitting under the stars without the lights of the city is also a magical experience. Camel riding is awesome and 4WDing in the desert in and out of the various rock formations, breath taking. These guys will look after you with a taxi if needed straight after your tour.

May be a little more expensive than other camps quoted BUT their sites didn't look nearly as nice. You pay for what you get!

Thumbs up Salem :) Jess and Joel

We spent only one night here for a camel trek in the end of May. We paid 70JOD per person for the whole trek excluding the entrance fee of Wadi Rum. It was only two of us in the trek. Pick up was without any hassle as everyone in the village knows everyone. Just make sure you get a ticket at the entrance as there has been some staff who just took your money and let you in without actually purchasing a ticket, the money doesn't go to the Wadi Rum Nature Park funding to help protect the desert.

Pack lunch was great, it was impressive to drink tea boiled from a pot in the middle of the desert. The camel trek was around 5 hours, plus a lunch break. Tour guide was very nice though he doesn't speak much English, which didn't really bother us.

When we arrived at the camp, cold water was served immediately. The tents hold 2 people in each one of them and have a double bed/twin bed in them, which is a luxury in the desert. Blankets were enough for the night, though it doesn't get too cold in May. There's a toilet next to the tents, and there are shower rooms in it.

Food was plentiful for the whole day. Everyone there seems to be enjoying their time. Chatting with the staff there makes you understand their culture and experience, and you can see that they are actually very genuine in talking about their lives.

It was overall a very pleasant experience, it is a bit expensive if compared to some other companies, but they provide an excellent service and very nice and unforgettable experience. They are not like other companies where they would ask you for tips either.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
About our Guides: We assure you our guides are the best available in Wadi Rum. They are all English-speaking, very professional, and have a lifetime of experience in and around Wadi Rum, as they have been living here their entire lives. They are fun, friendly, very knowledgeable about the history and factual information about the desert, and excellent entertainers! About our Campsite: Our camp is located 10km from Rum Village, INSIDE THE WADI RUM PROTECTED AREA. Many larger or commercial camps in Wadi Rum are located OUTSIDE the protected area, however we are fortunate to have the advantage of being inside. We are fully licensed, fully accredited, and fully LOVE our desert and love sharing it with visitors. The camp can easily accommodate your guests with comfort-- we have modern kitchen and bathroom facilities, sit-down toilets, running water and electricity for lights. Our tents are furnished with rugs and beds and plush desert bedding. We have made sure that the camp is as comfortable, welcoming, convenient, and most of all ENJOYABLE as possible. The camp itself is beautiful: we have a large outdoor stone seating area complete with tables decorated with mosaics of desert rock, as well as a main "living room" style tent at the center of our camp where everyone gathers on cushions and carpets and padded seating to eat, drink tea, enjoy the campfire, listen to Bedouin music, and engage in lively discussion. Many guests during the warm spring and summer months opt to sleep outside of the tents under the stars, and we have a large area for this purpose as well. About the Food / Dinner: we will prepare Bedouin food for the main dish, where we will cook Zarb, a dish cooked in the earth, with some vegetables, rice, and various salads, all served in a buffet style. Lunch: we offer our guests a picnic lunchbox during the tour. Breakfast: will be an open buffet of different breakfast foods with coffee & tea. Drinks: drinking water and soft drinks will be always available in the camp and during the trip and is include the price. We will provide private tents for your group at our campsite which are prepared with beds and all sleeping equipment (pillows, blankets, bedding). All meals (Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner) + Drinking Water + Tea + Coffee are included in your tour. We will take care of everything that may you need in the desert, but suggest our visitors bring the following personal items which may make their experience here in Wadi Rum more comfortable: * Good shoes for walking, hiking, and scrambling (boots are preferable) and if possible, sandals, which are more comfortable for walking in the sand. * Headlamp/Flashlight/Torch: you will need it for the night time. * Sun cream: to protect yourself from the sun.. * Small Bag: to carry your camera and water. We don't ask for deposits (too complicated!) and are not set up to take credit cards, but would ask for payment in Jordanian Dinars when you are here. The price does not include the entrance fee to the Wadi Rum Protected Area which is 5JD per person (paid at the Wadi Rum Visitors Centre). Please note: there are no ATMs or banks in Wadi Rum. Please arrange to bring enough JD to cover all costs! We look forward to welcoming you to the Wadi Rum and sharing the life of the Bedouin with you!! ... more   less
