“A desert Idyll”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

We were a group of 6 wanting to see as much as we could of Wadi Rum in a 24 hour trip. After extensively researching camps in the area, I settled on this one after contacting them directly. Two of our group wanted a camel trek, the rest of us wanted a jeep trip...all ending up at our camp for the night.

The jeep trip was fun and exciting, seeing lots of highlights like the rock bridges, two of which we climbed. We walked through canyons and climbed sand dunes. We sat on the back of the truck with the wind in our hair. (There was a canopy over, but by the end so much of it has blown off it wasn't worth being there) Our truck also got stuck in the sand at one point. (one does wonder why they don't use 4 wheel drives for this desert drive!!!)

We met our friends back at camp and were pleasantly surprised. The huts had clean bedding on and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The toilet block was clean and the showers had hot water...bliss after being covered in sand for 7 hours.

We sat on a sand dune and watched sunset....and the Full moon come up...couldn't have planned staying in the full moon camp any better eh?

By now we were hungry, but couldn't smell any food cooking. We did wonder if we were going to be fed. The camp fire was lit and the oud came out where one played it and another sang. We lay in the matresses on the floor looking at the stars. Eventually we were told that they had to dig up dinner. And dig it up they did. Under the ground they had cooked potatoes chicken, onions and tomatoes. It was delicious. There were salads and rice to go with it as well as water and hot, sweet tea.

We all slept really well here, some outside under the stars and some in their huts. I would thoroughly recommend staying here, I felt the package of 7 hour jeep tour with dinner and B&B for 40JD excellent value.

We spent 2 nights at full moon camp in July 2012.

"Full moon" camp is surely the place were you can have genuine Rum desert
experiences. Tyseer & Abdul (brothers) are bedouins born in the Rum desert for several generations.
They know life in desert and love their country. Talks with them are delightful.

The camp is located 5 km away from the Rum Village, along a big rock providing some fresh shadow until 11:00 AM
and facing sunset at night.
Morning shadow is important when it is very sunny and very hot.
We were the only guests in the camp (low season) and new installations (new tents, bathrooms) were on going
(planned to be finished during summer 2012). Comfort is low but atmosphere is very good and we had a great time in the camp.
Bedouin tents are not very spacy. Matelas are available and you can sleep either in the tent or outside.
No electricity in the camp: plan to take your torch or candles.
No drinkable water in the camp. There are shops in the rum village to buy some water.

Abdul can drive you into the Rum with a "safe hand on the wheel".
Perfect english spoker, you will be at your own with him.
We choose to stay 2 nights at the camp, and I believe it was enough but just necessary for having
the time to discover the place without being in a hurry.

Some useful advises:

Call Tyseer before arriving at the visitor center and arrange a rendez-vous at the Rum village
because you can't drive in the reserve then you have to park your car at the entry of the Rum village (after visitor center)
At the visitor center, just pay for the Rum entry and pass away other trip sellers (there are numerous).
They will try to sell you their tours but in fact when you sleep in a rum camp, you host take care of all
your visits inside the reserve (jeep tour, camel ride).
Go to the village and meet Tyseer / Abdul, then he will take care of you and arrange everything.

Rum "atmosphere" is very different from what we have seen in Jordan. The earlier you can trust your guides
the earlier they will open you the doors of their pure bedouins souls ...

This was an amazing experience! It was so much better than we expected! I absolutely loved it! And would go back anytime. I think the location of the camp is perfect, it;s surrounded by rocks, nice sunset, quiet and clean. There was a good bunch of people in the camp that night, and it was a full moon. So romantic We had a great evening with some music and dance, all guides are very friendly and helpful, they can sing and play musical instruments.
I hightly recommend Full Moon camp for your desert trip.

Wadi Rum is definite must see In Jordan. However, go with a different camp as this one was terrible. We were left alone in the camp for hours with young children with limited resources. Although dinner was provided but that was it. My wife had no food as she is vegetarian. They knew this but forgot. They drove us into town to get us breakfast. No tea, coffee was ever served in the morning. Wadi Rum itself was magnificent. It would have been nice to get coffee or tea while just appreciate the splendor. Instead, the owner was sleeping while all of us waited. The bedding in the camp is old and probably never washed. My one son had some worms in his hair and stuck to his scalp the next morning. Guess you get what you pay for. Take our advice and go with some campsite with a better reputation.

you can see a very nice truck on their website. Too bad, that is not for you. The truck they used to take us around was almost fall apart. We were amazed to see that the truck still could move. The driver bearly speaks English. All he told us was " this is No.2". He means NO. 2 on the map

I didn't get a chance to meet Tyseer. But his brother Yaser is very unpleasant to talk to. I can't understand why people gave nice reviews about this place.

the toliet was broken and nobody even bother to fix it. B/c the other couple who booked the tour didn't show up. We had some extra food. So the person who worked in the camp decided to call his friends. The whole night they kept playing loud music and talking. We couldn't sleep. The next morning we couldn't wait to leave that place.

Thank you to Tyseer and his team from the Full Moon Camp for two wonderful days at the Full Moon Camp and wished that I had more time to stay there for a couple of days. The service and attention were excellent starting with the communication about options for a last minute stay for a single traveller. The reception at the camp was warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. I took part in a funny camel ride and the jeep tour with tourists from Austria and Spain. We had always enough time to go around at the sites. At the second day, we undertook a fine hike through the desert watching birds, reptiles and visited some new discovered Nabatean frescos. Thanks Ali for your nice company and presenting us to all your relatives we met on the way. I would recommend everybody to spent a night unter the stars to enjoy the silence and beauty of the desert.
