This place is awesome. You may find it hard to believe, but people actually live in those houses! I think it's unique in the world in that regard.
I had a great time there with my family. We stayed in one of the houses for a day. It was early spring and it was a little cold there. The local people are kind and unlike many places in Iran, they smile generously! Oh, one fun fact about Kandovan: a relative of mine who used to teach there around 20 years ago told me that when she first visited Kandovan, the local people were not used to outsiders coming and visiting their village, so they would run away and hide whenever they saw outsiders!
All the brick houses that you will see there have been built recently. It is a pity that the local people as well as outsiders are being allowed to ruin the beauty of this place with those brick buildings. They need to tear those buildings down and preserve the character of the village. I would have rated this place 5 if it were not for the brick houses.
