Firstly, this is a very big bazaar and if you have never been to a souq or bazaar in the Middle East or elsewhere in Asia, I am sure this will impress. We were expecting something rather different in terms of the look (as it was UNESCO, we just thought it might be more beautiful or different) or what was in it. It is a working market, which is great. So if you are in Tabriz, by all means go. it is worth a walk around but do not come to Tabriz just for this, as the trip will not be worth it. For tourists, the attraction is the carpet part of the bazaar so do know this. DO NOT buy from the shops that are very specifically for tourists, these are the ones in the main passages of the bazaar; go off to the sides (where you need to leave the main passages and go in to the areas which are more like offshoots and where there are sometimes courtyards. you will see these easily. As a for example, we wanted to buy a runner, went in to one of the shops on the main area and they wanted to charge 250 Euro. this was about 2.5 times what they should have tried to charge. I was so annoyed that we left. Know what a good price should be and stick to it. Working with some of the real carpet shop guys, we did come away with a good price and a lovely carpet. Apart from carpets, you can get spices and some perfume oils but again, this is a working market, so go there for the life!
