“For budget travel only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We had accidentally booked this place as it is also known as Bintan Beach Resort through an agent. It was nowhere in Bintan. It is actually situated ll the way in Tanjung Pinang. The rooms are very bare and you may not get hot water at all times. You will be able to hear any commotion in the next room as well as I believe the walls are very thin. There is no refrigerator or mineral water provided.
The breakfast is very scarce and tasteless, but the customer service is excellent.
It's good to hang by the swimming pools at dusk sipping your cocktails - this may be the only good function of this place.
There are no lifts in this place.

Room Tip: Try to stay on the lower floors as there are no elevators in this place.

How to go?
Taking a cab from ferry terminal will take about in less than 1 hour to arrive.

Room:
I stayed in Standard Twin Room. It is located on 3rd floor. The room is considered pretty spacious. Besides the usual twin bed, there is a small sitting area. The bed is ok only and so are the pillows. There is a TV but is those bulky old type CRT. The reception is not that good. The carpet is quite moldy and a bit dirty. There is also a balcony and the view is looking over other residence area. From the balcony, you are able to see some sea view. However, it is mostly block by some trees and another of this hotel building that has the direct sea view. The paint on the railing of balcony is very peeled off. Also the balcony floor is always have puddle of waters. The air-con in the room is very weak and this make the room very warm. There are no complementary bottle waters and no free wifi in room. Also no complementary newspaper is provided.

Bathroom:
The bathroom is very dated! Everything is pretty basic. There is no rain forest shower and bathing cubicle is just separated from the rest by a shower curtain. The towel is ok only. There is zero bathroom amenities provided which is really unacceptable! The room cleaning service really need to keep up cos they should replenish as I saw a half bottle use bathing gel which I think left behind by previous guest!

Services:
When I arrive at the entrance lobby, no one help me with my baggage. Check in speed is ok. The staffs are still quite friendly but they speak little English. The staffs over the restaurant are eager to help but their service is a bit slow.

Amenities and breakfast
There is a swimming pool. However, not many people use it. The breakfast is extremely simple! The food is really bad. Not much choices at all. I ask for a few rounds of egg and they either serve it very slowly or keep forgetting.

Hotel:
The location of the hotel is pretty far into the residence area. The road leading to it is small and bad. There is nothing within walking distance. The hotel lobby is simple but you are able to access free wifi there. One good thing about this hotel is that it is sitting next to the sea. There is a nice park walkway leading to the sort of pier area over looking the sea and other part of the town.

Verdict:
Bintan Permata Hotel is really bad. The only good thing I can think of the friendly staffs. Other than that, nothing is good. Please stay away.

If you are looking for a place that is away from the busy dirty road, this could be the place for you. Good enough for a budget hotel, it has sea-view and pool view rooms. TV has many channels from locals to Singapore, Malaysia and movie channels.

I had a decent pool view room. Although the hotel is not the luxury kind, they even had switches fixed to the headboard so that you can save the hassle gettin out of bed to switch on/off the aircon, tv and lights.

There is limited selection for breakfast, just local dishes like fried noodles and rice. They also served plain congees, served with anchovies and fried peanuts. Basic tea and coffee is available. Alternatively, there's toasted bread and kaya (local bread-spread).

Staffs know simple basic English.

Hotel can be very quiet by noon as most of the patrons will go for shopping or massage. For massage, you may ask the driver to bring you to Ladies Spa.

Advisable to buy cup noodles and own food to keep yourself from hunger at night. Did not get to try any food for dinner.

Room Tip: There's no lift. The hotel is ony 3 storey high, i think.
