“Great view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

This hotel has one of the best views ever. It is also possible to arrange several trips to the vulcano thorugh the hotel. Breakfast is good. They also serve a pretty good meal at the hotel restaurant which is good as there is not a lot of choice of food in the village. Beds are soft and water is warm.

It is undeniable, the view from the hotel restaurant and (I believe all) the rooms is truly fabulous. But this hotel needs to work a lot harder especially for what it charges.

The customer service was poor. There was a long wait for everything, lack of anyone who could speak more than basic English (I know this shouldn't be presumed but all other hotels have had staff able to help in English), and no information anywhere. Eg how to use the room facilities, or any activities, where to go for breakfast etc!

The room was also a disappointment. We were delighted to be upgraded to a suite. Although it was a nice enough room, I think calling it a suite is a bit much!! There was no aircon or fan so we had to have door open all night. There is no screen door so got bitten to pieces! Nobody could help or
apologise when we told the staff.

Overall, a great view and the rooms are fine but for the cost it is a rip off. Have stayed other hotels for a third of the price which were so much better. Plus a bit of customer service training would not go amiss!

Dear Madam,

Please accept my sincere gratitude for bringing up our lack of air conditioning on this forum. We would like to make it clear to all potential guests that we do not have air conditioning. Those who require climate control for their sleeping comfort should stay in the tourist belt of coastal Bali or in the 5 star resorts of Ubud. To my knowledge, there is no hotel with air conditioning within the Bangli or Kintamani area.

We have many improvements on our agenda, but air conditioning is definitely not on the list. You could say that it is against my religion to waste fossil fuels (all public electricity in Bali derives from the burning of Coal or Diesel) in bringing climate control in an area where the ambient room temperature fluctuates between 18 and 28 Celcius. In fact, I think it is an environmental crime to build buildings in the "glass-oven" style of architecture along Bali's coast only to install 5 air conditioning units per room to bring it to the sub-arctic conditions high end guests demand.

Our outdoor temperature this past month has ranged between 15 to 18 Celcius in the early morning to highs of 25 to 28 Celcius during the day. The maximum temperature we experience outside in the summer is 32 Celcius, and the minimum we experience is 12 Celcius. As such, our solution to creating an environment that is pleasant to humans in terms of thermal comfort are double-glass doors and curtains (in fact: two curtains in the suite; one sheer to let some sunlight in, the other solid to block sunlight out or keep heat in when necessary) in addition to sheets and thick duvets.

We are located more than 1,300 meters above sea level. As far as I know, we do not have the mosquito species that bite humans at this altitude in Bali. The "mosquitoes" I have encountered are of the fruit fly variety. I will, however, treat your complaint seriously and check our environment for any potential habitats for mosquitoes.

Regarding service, what our staff lack in advanced English language skills they more than make up for with their enthusiasm to communicate. 80% of communication is non-verbal and I do believe most of my staff have an amazingly positive attitude in hosting our guests.

Wishing you pleasant travels in the years to come.

We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Kintamani Lakeview for making our short stay a memorable and enjoyable one.

Our special thanks goes out to GM Pak Kadek for helping us out with our booking issue with another property. We were really greatly touched by his sincerity and willingness to help.

We got to know with some explanation from Pak Kadek that a local travel agent in Bali has been misrepresenting small properties in the Kintamani area and even other parts of Bali, and that is the reason why we have had problems changing and cancelling our previous booking with the original property we booked with.

With his help we managed to go down to the other property to apologise the the poor manager whom we unwittingly gave a tongue lashing due to the misunderstanding.

We had the most fabulous view of the sunrise over Mt Agong at the dawn of the next day at our balcony, and we also enjoyed a most challenging but refreshing time hiking our way up Mt Batur the next morning.

The room is beautiful, the beds comfortable, the food good, the people are warm and helpful and overall we really have no regrets staying here.

It was a stay to remember and we only wish we had more time so we could experience the hot springs but alas we had to move on to the next location.

We are sorry we didn’t get to thank and bid the GM goodbye in person before we left but we hope to get the opportunity to visit again next time so we can properly express our thanks and enjoy more of the beauty of Kintamani.

Thank you for your kind words and vote of encouragement for our products and services. I'm glad you have a good time and we look forward to hosting you again.

Due to lack of government enforcement of regulations and local leadership, there's a distinct "Wild Wild West" feel to the Kintamani region. We try our best to provide a safe haven while highlighting the best the area has to offer.

Online misrepresentation is a huge issue in Kintamani, as it is in other remote tourist areas where internet is still new and owners/managers have not yet caught up with technology. We advise guests to exercise good judgement in reading information online.

Hotel is well situated next to Mt Batur & Lake Batur and view was amazing, yet room was average even though we didnt have any expectations at all. Wall is outdated with marks on it, corridor and bathroom looked dirty and smelled. Safe in room didnt work and we didnt have hot water for shower.

Restaurant was great as it is overlooking the mountain. F&B tried their best to speak English. well done!!

We prepaid 2 nights but after we did sunrise trekking to Volcano Batur, we decided to leave one day early as we didnt feel comfortable in room. We understood it was a prepaid booking and no refund, we asked for a discount for transport back to Kuta, staff there said no which was quite disappointing.

I wont recommend this hotel because you can stay somewhere more convenient with similar price. If you want to see Mount & Lake Batur, you can join local tours.

Ps. despite of all disappointments, views of the volcano and lake are amazing!!

Room Tip: Join local tour which will take you to Kintamani and back to hotel, unless you want to spend more ti...

Thanks for your candid review, photos and feedback. There are many faces to Bali, and I do think Bali has something for almost every kind of traveler. At Lakeview we offer value for money for our accommodation and services to travelers who love fresh air and nature in a rustic yet charming environment.

If bars and nightlife are what you are looking for, then I agree there are more conveniently located hotels in the south of Bali. We are located on the crater rim of an ancient volcano, convenient for contemplating the mountain and lake view, as you've mentioned and photographed from the room. The only restaurant open after dark is Danu Art Cafe, our a la carte restaurant, which has quite a selection of food and drink.

Our gas hot water system is centralized. On cold nights, it takes up to 5 minutes to heat up the pipes all the way to the most distant room to get hot water, but it's worth the wait. Our greywater is used to water the gardens, so we don't mind you leaving the shower on until the glass walls around the shower mists up.

Australians rarely venture this far into the interior of Bali overnight, most join the day tours you've mentioned, especially the popular cycling tours such as the Bali Eco Cycling trip that starts after breakfast with a view at our buffet restaurant before cycling downhill to Ubud.

Last but not least, we are quite generous with refunds for direct booking cancellations, but there are limitations of refunds we can give when the payment comes via a third party. Our generous refund policy has been abused by career-complainers in the past, hence the front office staff have limitations to what refunds and discounts they can issue. Simply ask for the manager -- if one of us is not on site, front office staff can call us to approve the refund or discount.

Wishing you many wonderful holidays in Bali to come!

The lakeview hotel is situated perfectly! We half a dorm room with the 6 of us and there were 2 showers for 2 dorm rooms. however we did not have warm water; boiler did not coop really. The young staff at the reception do not really want to help you with things, however this is compensated 100% by the maintenance guy who helped us with everything and by the helpfull manager! We took a tour of the hotels operation, kintamani backpackers which was a great experience with nice food! Overall: i would recommend this hotel!

Hi, thanks for reviewing our new business, Kintamani Backpackers -- hopefully it'll get it's own Trip Advisor page one of these days. We're just about to launch the website.

Gemutlich is one of those words that is so right for this place. A cozy romantic fire, comfy sofa, delicious food and professional service made us return to this establishment several times during our two day stay in the area even though we were not staying in the hotel. The view during the day and evening is heavenly and we often sat drinking hot chocolate or wonderful coffee, gazing into the clouds and caldera of the volcano.

There is plenty of food to try from the menu. The fresh cakes and bread and butter pudding were yummy and we couldn't resist the spiced mulled wine. Just perfect for those chilly mountain evenings. Pak Kadek is the perfect host and suggests treats to try. We had both Balinese and Western inspired mains and found them very very good. The soups were fresh, the nasi champur tasty, the fish cooked well.

The staff were always friendly and helpful. Next time we will stay in the hotel which is delightful and new with lots of beautiful artworks. This really is a splendid way to spend your holiday. Don't be put off by the vendors pushing their souvenir trinkets outside - walk in, sit down and relax.

Room Tip: We only ate in the restaurant. But the views are stunning.

Thank you so much for visiting us for lunch and dinner on your two days and nights in Kintamani! I'm glad you enjoyed our food.

If you have a spare moment, I would really appreciate it if you could post your review on "Danu Lounge and Gallery" which is set up as a separate entity / restaurant on Trip Advisor.

Wishing you a productive week back at home, and looking forward to hosting you on your next trip to Bali.

Having visited the mother temple of Besakih, on a motor bike ride from Ubud, we decided to brave the rain and head further north to have a look at the lake. The further up we rode, the stronger the down pour and once we reached the ridge, we were suddenly in the clouds. The sight was so bad that it was almost too difficult to see the road ahead. Then we chanced upon the sign of the Lakeview hotel. What a perfect location to see the lake, the villages and the surrounding peaks, breaking through the clouds and revealing a majestic view. We ordered lunch and were given the option of buffet or a la carte. Our choice was chicken and vegetable nasi goreng. Great taste! Then we went for the coffee and cake option: save it... the coffee is ok for Indonesian style but the cake and cookies were disappointing. But again, the view was worth it and would be still so for much worse food.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the warm shelter of Lakeview on your journey. We do have a separate listing for our restaurant on Trip Advisor (this is the hotel one), I would really appreciate it if you review us on that page.

The coffee and cake is on a special promotion at the moment (Rp. 38.000 net for coffe/tea plus 3 kinds of cake/cookies) and it's very popular, our kitchen has at times not produced enough for the influx of guests asking for it. Our home-roasted coffee is supposed to be served in a French Press, but we only have 9 of those. I discussed your feedback with the team this morning and they asked me to arrange to buy more French Presses. We're also working to standardize the cakes option. We are also looking at setting up a separate coffee, tea & cakes buffet and make it available at an affordable price for those who want to come back to refill on their coffee, black tea or herbal tea.
